| In the spring of 88, Nebeker, McKitrick, Andrews, and myself went up into the little hill across the street from the girls high school, and found a secluded spot in the woods to play with the tear-gas grenade given to me the previous Christmas by a Namwon Branch member/ soldier who had been overly concerned with my saftey. After taking pictures of each other holding the grenade, I finally pulled the pin and tossed it away into a small ravine. Unfortunately, none of us thought to test the wind direction before engaging in this stunt and we were all promptly gassed by our own grenade. We ran blindly down the hill as fast as our feet could take us out of the area. Half an hour later, after we had recovered our senses--and our eyesight--we went back to pick up the pieces of the grenade as souvenirs. It was a P-Day never to be forgotten. | |
