Are you happy? 15 Feb 2003
Sometimes that was the most telling question President Waddell would ask. "Are you happy?" He said it with a concerned look at every zone meeting. I would always think to myself,"of course I am happy. I am a missionary. I am serving the Lord. I must be happy,...right?" That question would always make me think, though. It has only been about a year and a half since I have been home from my mission. So much has happened. I came home to teach highschool. I decided I wasn't cut out to be an educator in GA; morale was low (along with pay) due to our "good ole boy" governor's program (or lack thereof). Then, I decided to teach literature on a college level. Bad idea. How is it that educators can pass someone who can't even read without trying to help them improve?? Anyway, long story shorter, I pursued a carrer in London as a magazine assistant editor, dreaming of becoming a writer myself. Ha! Everyone has dreams. So, I am now living in an apartment, working as a smalltime editor of a magazine here in Atlanta. My mom just moved into an apartment with me because she and my father are divorcing. When it seems the world has changed and is out to crush me, I remember Pres. Waddell's question. Am I happy? My answer is not always certain, but I know I can answer in the positive. I choose to be happy. Nothing can make me happy. I have learned that lesson that the Lord has been trying to teach me since my first days in Korea. I can choose my own attitude. It is always difficult to be a young single in a place where young single members are so busy--busy working, busy playing, busy finding a mate. But....I AM HAPPY. I am not alone. I have hope. I love the Lord. It truly amazes me how He can make me feel so loved, so safe,...at peace. Isn't it great?! I just wanted to reach out to all of you--those I know and wish I could meet--and say,"I love you." I am happy. ARE YOU?
