Comments:
My wife and I were married August 13th, 2004. We were sealed by President C. Max Caldwell in the Salt Lake Temple on October 7th, 2004. I was privileged to work among Southeast Asian refugees in addition to the other great English (and Cajun) speaking people in the mission. I studied Thai in the MTC, Lao (similar to Thai) in the mission-field, had one Thai/Lao speaking companion (Elder Craig Wagley) and two Vietnamese speaking companions (Elders Greg Burton and Ross Chiles). So in addition to regular work, we sought for and taught Lao, Vietnamese and some Cambodian people. I also had a companion from Scotland (Elder Jim Cummings) who helped me appreciate some of my own ancestral heritage. I've worked in various fields, but am now in interpreting/translation full time (I've studied much more Thai, Lao since my mission). I helped establish the Lao program at the MTC in 1989, and have been involved with General Conference interpretation since 1987, and have been a contract content review translator for the Church. I went to Thailand and Laos in 1993, and got to interpret for Elder John Carmack, Asia Area President at the time, for his initial visit to Laos. I've served in Lao/Thai Branches in the Salt Lake area, Camellia City Ward in Sacramento, CA, which hosts Lao, Thai and Mien members throughout Sacramento, and now we live in the beautiful Sierra foothills. I love the Southeast Asian people dearly. Needless to say, my mission affected my life deeply.
