My family took a trip through the old areas from my mission (89-91) and a lot has changed. if any of you had served in winona,

Dear MMMissionaries,
It has been 10-13 years since weve returned from the great MMMission where we learned to love the Minnesotans, Wisconsonites and Canadians (for those who served in Thunder Bay).
Sister Hugh and I just returned from visiting Minnesota. We stopped by the mission home and were excited that it was transfer day. Remember congregating in the mission home and office parking lot? The scene was the same! Elders and sisters coming and going, hugging old companions, luggage and bike boxes strewn all over, the mission van and trailer shuttling missionaries to the bus depot, members bringing missionaries in and taking new missionaries to their new areas, President & Sister Evans (arrived in July 2002) hustling around, feeding, interviewing and trying to keep order midst the excitement of transfer day. It brought back so many memories of missionaries departing and arriving as we stood back and watched. We couldnt help feeling a little envious, and yet secretly glad that someone else was carrying the load.
Words can hardly describe the feelings we had as we visited the temple located next to the St. Paul Stake Center. What a blessing to have the temple there and be able to attend a session with one of our former mission presidency members, Richard Foster and his wife Barbara. Also a former missionary, Elder Mark Gohnert and his wife joined us. The Gohnerts live in Hutchinson. President and Sister Call are serving as temple president and matron and Pres. and Sister Sheffied are also serving in the temple presidency.
Our sad news is that we have had three deaths within our ranks since weve returned home from Minnesota in 1993.. Elders Matthew Hoyt, Brian Liechty and Shane Vandermiede have all passed away and have been transferred to their next assignment. We send our love and prayers to their families.
We are always glad when we hear from each and every missionary. And the most thrilling thing to us is when you share news of your families, your ambitions, successes, hardships, but most importantly that you are still serving your Heavenly Father and helping the kingdom to grow in your own areas.
We have been able to visit a few of you missionaries as we travel. Now we are free to travel it is fun to know where you are and to be able to contact you. We were able to visit Elder Todd Coleman and his family in Grinnell, Iowa; and Elder Jason Wilde and his family in Crystal, MN on this recent trip. Sister Hugh had a dental concern when she was visiting in L.V. and Elder Brad Rowe was most gracious to help her. She had a great visit with Sister Shinsel Rowe also. My, how we love each of you! We pray the Lords choicest blessing upon each of you
the best missionaries in all the world. We will be eternally grateful for all of your support and love. If you have the opportunity to pass through Cedar City, please stop by!

does anyone know how to find Kathryn (stevens) Applegarth? she was one of my companions in the mission field. and i used to write to her after we came home but over the last few years we lost contact with each other.
i know she's married now and has a couple children.

Sister Hugh and I send our love and Talofa from Samoa. We are serving a CES mission and will return in Feb. 2003 after directing the Seminary and Institute programs on the three islands of Samoa....Upolu, Savaii and American Samoa. We have been supervising over 5000 students and 200 teachers in this great part of the South Pacific. We have not yet had to shovel any snow off the sidewalks or come in because its under 30 below.....in fact it never gets below 85 and the humidity is around 90 %. We just enjoy it. We are anxious to hear from any of our missionaries and plan on getting in touch with as many as we can when we return to see how everyone is doing. I am having a racquetball court built for me but I'm afraid it's construction is on Samoan time so it will probably not be finished before we return home..... We hope all is well with all of you and we send our love and say...tofa soifua....Pres. and Sister Hugh
