Buenas Para Todos de mis ex-misioneros de tiempo completo.
This is El Unico Chombo Blanco Wright. I had a question to all those who currently work at the MTC or BYU. I wanted to know the name of the language program that we used in the MTC to learn Spanish or other foreign languages and also if it's available to purchase it. I was interested in purchasing a good computer program to learn another language like Japanese or Arabic. I'll appreciate any information ya'll can give me. I hope all is well in the lives of all mis Compas. Cuidense mucho,
Elder Van Wright

I received an email yesterday from Shane indicating that he could help me get in touch with a former companion of mine, Nelson Fotu. I attempted several times to reply to Shane's email, but my response bounced back each time from the Yahoo server. Shane, if you read this, could you get in touch with me again and either pass along Nelson's information or give my email address (apmoran@btinternet.com) to him and ask him to contact me?
Thanks for taking the time to get in touch,
Patrick

During 1974 we asisted in building the chapel in Panama city, it was the first building in the city, the canal zone didn't count. I am seeking photos of the building.
It was located across the street from the Jewish Synagogue. Any help? I'm one of the silent old timers on this list. I served in 1974, in David and in the city

Pres. and Sister Seegmiller would like to have a Missionary Reunion during the Summer of 2005. If you served from 1995-1998, please let the Seegmiller's know when would be a convenient time.
Also, please update your information on this site and go to Polls and pick a time frame when you would like to have the reunion (most likely on a weekend).

I served in the Panama City, Panama Mission 1996 -1998. This March, I will be leading a group service project to Panama and the San Blas Islands. The group is a non-for-profit organization called VIDA (www.vida4all.org). We facilitate our projects by combining our own money with money we are able to raise through contacts and businesses. If you would like the opportunity to contribute to the project, please let me know. We are need of donations and/or financial assistance for the service project. The more donations and more money we raise, the more we can provide to the people. VIDA’s primary purpose is to improve development abroad.
Many of you know the Stocel and Martinez Family in Arrijan, Vista Alegre and San Blas. We have worked together to organize and facilitate these projects. I have been able to communicate with the District President of Kuna Yala, Jose Martinez. He has arranged for the service projects to take place on the island of Ticantiqui and possibly on two different islands: Nargana and Isla Tigre.
There are many small projects we have been asked to complete. First: to repair the benches located in their casas de congresos. Second: to paint the school. Third: to assist in the medical clinics (there are four in our group who are studying medicine) and fourth: to assist in teaching the school children health and hygiene clinics.
We need donations. There are approximately 300 children on the island. We are in need of school supplies (notebooks, backpacks, pens, crayons, etc), dental supplies, medical supplies, nutritional supplements, and money. If you are interested in donating to the project, please contact me. My e-mail address is chris@dfcu.com and my address is 13028 S 2730 W, Riverton, UT 84065.

Well, all the calendars are printed and have shipped out to those who have already ordered them. Based on my own opinion and the comments I've gotten back so far, they turned out awesome! That seems to be the word of choice. For those of you who haven't ordered one yet, you can do so at: http://www.avidcreative.com/jacom/panama/calendar I printed some extras, so there are still a few left, but they are going to run out pretty quickly.
For a photo of the actual calendar: http://www.avidcreative.com/jacom/panama/calendar/images/Panama-calendar-photo.jpg
Merry Christmas to all!

Duane Cheney, the project manager for Temple Construction in Central and Northern South America, contacted me and offered to keep us updated with the progress of the Panama temple construction.
For those of you who don’t know, the temple site will be located where the Cardenas chapel is currently constructed. Part of the Ward house will be demolished to make room for thetemple.
Duane said the temple plans were approved by President Hinckley on August 12 (click to view Temple renderings from the Street Entrance and the Main Entrance). The architect is Chris Lund who will be working with the Panamanian architect Ignacio Mallol. They met August 31 for their first “kick-off” meeting. Plan development is advancing, however, no dates have been set for a ground breaking ceremony (special invitation is required to attend). A construction start date has not yet been determined but could be as early as March or as late as June 2005.
The next stages include the bidding process and then the appropriation of funds, both taking a couple of months to complete. The open house and dedication will most likely be held late 2006 and only then will the temple be available for public viewing.

I've been in contact with a guy from Australia that is going to be moving to Panama soon. He has been in Panama for the past couple of weeks and has meet with the couple responsible for building the temple (Suzanne and Duane). I thought you'd like to hear how the plans are developing. I have compiled the info. I've gotten from various emails and summarized it below:
Duane was expecting the final plans by December, but unlikely. It is not looking like the first sod will be turned until June of 2005. Suzanne and Duane have already been in Panama for 12 months. We should see a private ground breaking ceremony prior to June and the build will take around 18 months. It will be a very attractive, compact temple.
The plans are not public because Pres. Hinkley has not approved them, which may not occur until year end. The build site is on the Cardenas grounds. They will be clipping the primary wing on the canal side and replacing it on the other side to make room for the temple entry. The temple will be quite a sight as one travels to the canal.
There is a accomodation and office facility at the rear of the property to allow for temple missionaries, the temple presidency and visitors to stay. Although a local panamanian construction company will do most of the work, specialised tradesmen will be flown in to complete the interior to the high standards we are use to seeing.
As I hear more info. I will be sure to post it for all of you to read. If you hear of other developments, please let me know. I wouldn't miss the dedication for anything.
Jacom Stephens
