I had always tried to be an obedient missionary but that received a whole new meaning when I was sent to help train Elder Kent Jarvis and later train Elder Trevor Hoth. The importance of helping them see what the mission should be like hit home for me. We had to start the area in the Fernando de la Mora Ward over again because we were all new to it. We started making contacts as much as we could and looking for references. I was discouraged from my previous six months in Coronel Bogado, three as first councilor with Elder Sevy and three as Branch President with Elders Corcuy and Blankenfeld. We had only set one baptismal date there and it fell through the next visit. Still I knew what needed to be done and had always worked hard to find people. One day me and Elder Hoth were waiting for the bus in Fernando de la Mora to go to our district meeting. I spotted a whiter looking man across the street looking at us. I got a good feeling and my attention was piqued. He came across to TALK TO US! Right then the bus came which we couldn't miss. I regretted getting on that bus later and thought we'd never see him again! The very next week we were in the same spot waiting and lo and behold here came the man! He approached us and told us he wanted to learn about Joseph Smith, we baptized him 5 weeks later! He was a Cuban named Eduardo Gonzalez, and truly a choice spirit. Last I heard in 2007 he had moved to Spain and was continuing faithfully. I can only imagine the joy when I meet those I helped to the waters of baptism again.
