USS Misionero 18 Mar 2002
Many years ago in Paraguay it began to rain. It rained and rained and rained. The more rain that came the higher the Rio Parana came up the banks. Eventually Encarnacion, Pilar and Ayolas were flooded. The water even put the house that was being used as a capilla under three feet of water. Elders Harris and Nelson were assigned there and Elders Browning and Sanderson were the ZLs who went to help move furniture to higher ground. There was a man that had a small boat that ferried the furniture and missionaries back and forth. The missionaries bid farewell to their floating help and proceeded to wade through the capilla picking up the last few items when they noticed that the baptismal font had not been moved. So their ingenuity took over and the christened the USS Misionero and set the font afloat with the four Elders on board. They floated the font right down Main Street in Ayolas and then the current caught them and started to take them to Argentina. Our fearless sailors were again rescued and taken to higher ground. All missionaries and the font were safe once again. The only wish that I have is that I had the picture to validate this story. The picture does exist, but I don't have a copy of it.
