Whoohoo 21 Jul 2005
Howdy, y'all? Ano sa taas? Well, my family has just grown by one. On Monday my wife had a baby boy. We've named him Nathaniel Joseph. 8lbs 4oz and 21in tall. He's healthy, we're happy. Yippee kay yay!

Hyatt, salita kapatid. Musta?

Anyways, I've got some additionally exciting news.

The Spanish group we've been attending is going to be made into a new branch. The paperwork has already been submitted by the stake to Salt Lake. We're anticipating organization this August. It will be neat. We just ordained 5 men to elder. Prior to that there were two elders, me and another brother. We have three high priests. Usually around 50 people attending meetings. It's exciting. Hometeaching is active. We have sister missionaries with what seems like two baptisms a month. It really is exciting to be involved in the ground work for the laying of a foundation for a branch that someday might be a ward. We started small last January but continue to grow. The stake leadership is excited about the branch as well. I guess the Lord works in mysterious ways. Being a native spanish speaker has been a real blessing as I have been able to help this spanish group grow. Many of the members have only been members for less than a year. I have been blessed to give talks, bless the sacrament every sunday, occasionally pass the sacrament, hometeach and teach how to home teach, and help new members understand gospel doctrine through participation in classes.

Plus, the meetings and the people remind me of the Philippines. My wife even likes attending the spanish group over the english because the people are much more like the pinoys.

I really have enjoyed hometeaching. I have been humbled countless times and reminded just as often of the blessings the Lord has afforded me in my life.

I have been able to get one co-worker to come to church. And I am working on another. I enjoy sharing my testimony of the kingdom of God on earth. It's amazing when you think about it.

Here we are, on earth, the chaos that surrounds us seems without end or explanation. And yet, a simple understanding of the scriptures and the words of the prophets illuminates everything. It is amazing to see the church grow through adversity and troubling times. In fact, it is further witness of the veracity of the work. Every time I watch the news and hear of the world in motion I cannot help but feel the truthfulness of the gospel of Christ. There is so much confusion and sin among people. There is even confusion among our own people.

There is chaos, war, and suffering in the world, but the message of the gospel dispels the pain through ocmprehension. What fear is there if God is on our side?

So much prophecy is being fulfilled. It is a wonder to watch it unfold. To be living in a time of living prophets and the fulfillment of prophecy both ancient and new. I will be able to tell stories to my grandkids of the events of this day and how the hand of God was in every event.

I know I sound cheesy, but everyone at my work knows I'm LDS. I joke them by asking them to join my cult, it would change their lives. I've been asked why I abstain from things that appear harmless. I ask them, "If there was something you wanted in this world more than life itself would you not do all you could to get it?" And they answer, "Yes." And I reply, "Now, you understand a little better why I choose to do the things I do."

Well, I have rambled enough. I've got to go play with my sons. They've been waiting patiently while I write this.

I'm happy to have a new son.

Salita sa mga kapatid ko. Kapayapaan sa labas, mga aso.

Mission Board Reunion? 20 Jul 2005
Hey All,

What is up with the message board? There are not any postings! All right Hernandez, think of something really controversial again, we need some action. Bates, it has been a few weeks since we have had one of your mini-sermons. I actually enjoy reading them.

As for the Hiatt family, Things are pretty much the same. I am still working mortgages in Utah. Rates have been good to me, so I can’t complain! :-) My son is already 16 months old, he is very active, and very solid. He is a real talker and a runner. I love it.

I hope everyone is doing well. I get to see Crabb quite a bit, and I still talk to President Gaviola often. It sounds like President is busy as ever being an Authority Seventy.

Lets get some more postings up here! I believe there are a lot of RM’s that check this site for a little mission recall. I personally love hearing how everyone is doing, and the site is much more enjoyable when we all get to hear what everyone is up to. Even if it is a quick Hello, don’t leave this message board without posting a little something about yourself or your family. (I sound like a missionary). Then when you are done posting a message, go home and read 3 Nephi Chapter 11…. :-) Just Kidding.

Take Care,

Hiatt

PS. Anyone hear from the boys from Down Under? Famui, Togia, or Gasu?!

4th of July 04 Jul 2005
At this time of the year as we celebrate the 4th of July Holiday we need to remember that our Freedom gives us the opportunity to be able to serve missions all over the world especially in Ilagan. I thought as we celebrate the 4th we should keep that in mind as well..

hello 26 Jun 2005
Whats up everybody. Just an update on what i've been up to lately, right now we still live in provo, but we're gonna move to St. George next month and build a house. No kids yet, we gonna wait a couple of years on that. I'm just working as an editor at the Provo newspaper, and I'm planning on going back to school and getting an MBA next year, we'll see what happens i guess. For now me and the wife are just workin, we celebrated our one year anniversary last month. It's nice to see everyone leaving messages again, keep em coming, it's nice to know what everyone's been up to with their lives. There probably aren't many people that come on this site that even remember me, but hello to Crabb, Hiatt, Hernandez, tracy, coombs, and to a lesser extend, Elder Day, (just kidding Tyson), and anyone else that remembers me. I been around 8 years since we started our missions, wow, we're getting old. Take it easy everybody.

Stead 23 Jun 2005
Tell me. How does one go from Placerville, CA to Washington D.C.? I only knew Stead for a month or so but I remember him because I have family that lives in the Placerville area. Stucki, if he doesn't check this you'll have to tell him I said hello.
Well, life has been extremely busy since I last posted here. We sold our house in Ogden and if all goes well we should close on it around the 18th of July. Hiatt is working with us and helping us get the ball rolling on our new house. If all goes as planned we will be moving to Layton. I am trying to get a little closer to work.
I'll keep you posted as to where I end up.

Familiar faces 22 Jun 2005
My wife and I just changed wards out here in D.C. Believe it or not but one Brett Stead is in my new ward. You old folks might appreciate that (Hiatt, Crabb, Bates). Also, I figured out that Brandon Bunker lives out here too. I had dinner with him and his very pregnant wife a couple of weeks ago and you will never guess who else was there. Jake Given. Oh yes! He is getting married this September in L.A. He is doing great.

By the way Powell, I played in a 3 on 3 basketball tournament last weekend. I thought of you. You wouldn't have been able to hang. No worries. Next time I'm in Utah I will help you with your game.

lenses 17 Jun 2005
I too took contact lens, and solution. i developed allergies to my solution for some reason, and didnt bring glasses so i had to stay in bed for two months because if i went out without contact lens things were a little blurry, and i couldnt work under those conditions. I recieved new solution after being confined to my bed for 2 months, and the work comenced as it had before.

Contact solution 15 Jun 2005
I wore contacts the whole 2 years I served. I had brought 2-3 bottles with me from the States, but also was able to find some in the larger towns, ie Tuguegarao and Santiago. I also brought a pair of glasses as back ups in case of emergency. I hope this helps.

saline solution 09 Jun 2005
Hey, everybody!

I've got a question I'm hoping you can help me out with. A friend of a friend just got called to a mission in the Visayas, and his family wants to know if he can get stuff for contact lenses down there of if he should just take his glasses. I know I wore contacts my whole mission, but for the life of me I can't remember if I packed all my saline solution with me or if I was able to buy it there. The other thing, of course, is that the smallest city I ever served in was Alicia...it's probably harder to get saline solution in the truly small towns, isn't it? What should I tell this guy?

Hiatt, thanks a lot for posting that video so we could see it. I really wanted to be at the reunion to see President Gaviola again, but at least I didn't miss all of it. The video sure made me miss the Philippines! And is it me, or have they built a TON of really nice church buildings in the past six years? Maybe my memory is failing me, but the Tugeugarao Stake Center didn't even look the same to me.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any advice I can get about the contact lens thing!
