Hey all,
President and Sister Gaviola will be coming to Arizona to attend the wedding of their daughter.
We would like to hold a little reunion BBQ, for any missionaries that are in the Arizona Area.
We will be meeting at the residence of Elder Roger Bottomfield. on Thursday July 22nd, at 5:00pm. I will provide the meat and buns for the BBQ, but if you would like to bring something to share, like chips, salad, desert, then that would be great. The Address is as follows:
Bottomfield Residence
1461 W. Tara Drive
Gilbert, AZ 85233
E. Bottomfield says it is a bit tough to find, so I would reccomend getting a map or driving instructions from: http://www.mapquest.com
If you have a hard time finding the house, you can contact Roger Bottomfield Directly. His Cell hone Number is: 480-235-1569.
You can also contact me if you would like to know general info, my cell phone is: 801-644-2464. I will be flying in that morning, but I would be glad to pick up anyone who needs a ride. (you will just have to tell me how to get there).
President Gaviola also asked me to extend a invite to the reception of their daughter and her new husband. It will be held on Saturday, July 24th. I will post an address and times as soon as I get them.
Hope to see lots of people there!
Take Care.

I just saw this movie. Here are my thoughts and review:
First, and foremost, this movie is a travesty; a blight indignation to the most sacred artifact of our religion. Let me tell you why. This movie was made to make money.
Money was the reason this movie came into existence; money is the driving force behind it; and, money is the reason a sequel will be made. It is a movie made on the gamble
that a large percentage of the LDS population would pay to see it. It wasn't shown for free; distributed for free; or rented for free. Had this movie not cleared
production costs, a sequel would not be in the works. Money is the soul of this movie. And, having listened to the commentary and watched the special features, it is
clear that--although vast financial gain was not their goal (How could it be? It's not like mass herds of non-LDS will be flocking to see this.)--making a return was.
Perhaps, and this is taken in the light of the great many scriptural variations, what irks me the most is the very liberal take on the scriptural account of the events of
the first 18 odd chapters of the Book of Nephi. I could list, in extensive detail, where they strayed, but I digress, and won't waste my time listing with minute attention
the errors. It sufficeth me to say that the creators took great "creative liberty" in this movie.
I can by all means excuse poor production quality. I understand that a movie of LDS proportions, intended for mass distribution, can not garner the financial backing of an
equal Hollywood feat. However, that being said, a better attempt--something more than mediocre costuming and an almost nonchalant disregard for dramatic talent--should
have been priority.
I think, in short, that I feel that this movie--this particular movie has no reason to exist. It has no excuse. There is no reason for members to go about and make a
movie about the Book of Mormon. There aren't that many that even read it; why would watching it be any more of a reason to learn about the record than reading it? There
are plenty of quality videos produced by the Church that depict the Book of Mormon era much more efficiently. Seminary and institute videos are excellent. However, I
understand why the Church hasn't already produced a movie about the Book of Mormon (i.e. a movie that tells the Book of Mormon's stories). And that is because there are
too few members who actually have read the entire book and even fewer who have read it more than once.
Over what I saw in the movie I prefer written word any day to the horror I watched on TV. If it had not been a free viewing I would not have watched it. (The creators
will not get a cent from me to support their efforts).
Well, that's my take on the movie. To those who have the opportunity to watch it, I recommend not. Renting it, or buying it, only feeds the pocketbooks of the creators
and sends them the message that we want to see things like this. There are far better faith building, better quality films out there. "How Rare A Possession", "The Lamb
of God", and the videos in Seminary and Institute.
I am embarrassed that non-members will see this. It doesn't build testimony, it doesn't invite the Spirit, it is the furthest thing from a conversion tool. Oh, I could go
on eternally about how bad this movie is, and about how potentially dangerous the repercussions on non-LDS could be. But, I won't. I'll will spare the bandwidth.
I apologize if I have offended anyone. But, I could not honestly refrain from my opinion. If you have heard of this movie, remember: YOU HAVE BEEN FOREWARNED. :)
p.s.
I don't really feel like arguing about this; so, if you want to comment feel free to, but don't expect a response. I may not like the movie, but not to the point of arguing my opinion about it. I don't like it. If you do, then let's just agree to disagree.

Well i served in Sanchez Mira for the last few months of my mission and had the oportunity to meet the bagio missionaries when they came over from Clavaria to tell me that i was in thier mission. I offered to buy them a Royal they turned me down and they left. Prezident Gaviola later told me not to go into Clavaria.
|
|
I don't know if you have been informed but someone from SLC is selling Garments on ebay and is available to anyone who desires to buy them. I just thought it was interesting
|
|
Is Claveria included in our mission boundaries? I heard it originally was but was soon given to the Baguio Mission because it was more accessible from their side. I had the impression it had been reincorporated back into the Ilagan Mission but it doesn't look like any of our alumni were ever assigned there. Anyway, just curious.

I got a database from President Paat of the former missionaries' parents' addresses. It should be used for the mission reunion. I thought, however, that it might be useful for those like me who don't really ask their companions' addresses, but would like to contact them some time.
I noticed however, that some did not allow other people to see their addresses. So, if you think I should give the addresses out to those who request it, let it be heard.
NOTE: All the addresses are of the former missionaries' parents. All those in the list are former missionaries who went home starting Jul 2001 until Mar 2004.
