Hello all!! 29 Jan 2006
Thought I'd write a quick note for an update. For those who remember me, you might be interested, and for others who don't remember me, just know that I was not the fat Christensen.
My wife and I had a little baby boy 2 months ago (she did most of the work). I am still in Oregon going to Optometry school. This is my last academic semester, then next year is all internships. I can't wait. My bit of exciting news is that I am going with a group of classmates and a couple doctors back to the philippines to give free eye care. And lucky me, it is even going to be in the old mission area. We are going to Tabuk. I was never there, but it is close enough. I've been trying to find out info about the area but it is hard to find. If anyone has any insights, that would be great.
Anyways, looking forward to hearing from everyone.

Mission Reunion March 31, 2006 / President Gaviola 14 Jan 2006
Hey All,

Happy New Year to all of the Ilagan Returned Missionaries! We are Planning Ilagan Mission Reunion on the Friday night before General Conference. (Friday, March 31, 2006). President Gaviola will be here for the Reunion. Two of President Gaviola’s Children are also planning to attend. Lael (his oldest daughter), and Nunoy, (his oldest son), will be in Utah, and at the reunion.

We will likely hold the reunion in Kaysville Again. I don’t know how many more times President Gaviola will be able to come over for Conference, so lets try and get every one here! We will post more information as we get closer to the dates. If anyone coming from out of town needs a place to stay, Both Elder Crabb and I have plenty of room, and we could give you a nice private place to sleep.

It would be great to see everyone... Hernandez, especially you! Coombs, Bates, Betts, Tracy, Coy, Decker, Francis, Callister… I could go on and on…. If everyone were to place a quick call to their old comps, and let them know that we wanted them to be there, then we would a great turn out!

We are blessed to have President Gaviola come over every April as part of his calling. We may not have many more reunions with President Gaviola, I would hate to have anyone look back and wish they would have come to one of these reunions with him here. Lets make this one count!

If you have any questions, or would like to lend a Hand at the reunion, Please contact either myself, or Elder Crabb.

Take Care, and we hope to see you there!

Long Time 10 Jan 2006
It's been a slow couple of months on the mission message board. I can't complain because I haven't made any attempt to contribute either.

Our Christmas holiday was great, we spent a lot of time with family and friends.

A quick update on my family: Harley just recently turned 4 years old on the 21st of December and Eliza turned 2 in August. It kills me sometimes to look back on my mission and realize that my service in the Ilagan Mission ended 6 years ago. Makes me feel a little old.

Monica and I are enjoying the new Ward in Layton. Monica was quickly called into Young Women's and I am now the 11 year old scout leader, which is quite the experience. Half of my scouts are active members and the other half are either nonmembers or their families are completely inactive. It has been fun to see my boys that are active fellowship the ones who aren't. They invite them to church almost every week and one of the boys has started coming. They are a great example to me.

My life right now is full of family, work and scouting. I try to spend as much time as possible with my wife and kids and we love every minute together.

Enough of my babbling. Where are all the RM's from Ilagan? We need to hear from you even if it is just a short hello.

Crabb

Holiday Benefit Concert, for someone you know. 08 Dec 2005
Those of you who are active in the local Filipino community may know Chris and Joy Molina. Chris is from Manila, and was in the same ward as my wife before serving his mission here in Utah (Provo Utah south mission). They have a cute 2-year-old daughter.
Anyway, I will try to make this long story short. Joy recently got very sick, and it turned out that she was in kidney failure. She has developed an autoimmune disorder which causes her own antibodies to attack and kill her kidneys. She is now on dialysis 3 times a week for 4 hours.
She has been placed on the transplant list, but there is usually about a two year wait before you can move up the list far enough that a donor becomes available. However, if she can find herself a matching donor, they can perform a transplant immediately. As you can imagine, it is very difficult for the family to juggle work and dialysis, let alone a two-year-old. The dialysis alone can leave you quite sick for a while. So, the family is working to find a donor that would match her blood and tissue types, in an effort to get off dialysis as soon as possible, and get on the road to recovery.
Now, no one is asking you to donate your kidney (unless you want to!), but Joy is arranging to have several of her sisters fly here to be tested, (siblings offer the highest potential for a good match). Her friends have come together in an effort to help raise money to shoulder the enormous cost of airfare. Chris, who happens to be a very talented singer, and some of their friends, who are also excellent singers, are going to be holding a benefit concert. “Utah Pinoy Idol, Chris Molina and The Pinay Divas” will perform entertaining holiday music, and the proceeds are to be used in bringing Joys sisters over for tissue-type testing, and hopefully a transplant.
Tickets to the show are $5, but any additional donation is welcome. The show is scheduled to take place on Friday, Dec 30, at 8 pm. It will be held at The Jordanelle Reception Center, 2295 West, Sugar Factory Road (8200 S.)
So come listen to some music at a good price for a good cause. After the show, it will be a new-years party, with dancing, fun, and a raffle. So come on out and give a listen to Utah Pinoy Idol, Chris Molina and The Pinay Divas.
For more info and to buy tickets, contact me. Click “Send Email” under this posting by my name.

Parokya concert 21 Nov 2005
Thanks to those of you who responded to my last message. I had already called the school, they had no idea where to buy tickets. I found out how on the Parokya web site. It was a fun time. They had food before hand and PNE's show was nice. It was cool to be a minority again amongst many Filipinos. Simmons and Faux went with me and it was a great time. Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
