Hi everyone...
Anyone who has ordered a temple bag, bookmark or hankerchief knows how beautiful they are. The Samson's can be reached at loursam@digitelone.com.
This is Sister Samson's email address. Her name is Lourdes Samson. I am sure they are the family in Pilar Bataan that many rememeber ordering things from while in the field. They could very much use the business right now. There are lots of trials going on for those we love over there!
I have posted her email address in the hopes that many of us remember them, and want to place an order for ourselves or for those we love. If not, still drop them a note to say Hi! I know they love hearing from us all!

Hi everyone..
Am looking for help with the Song entitled... Holding Hand Around the World. It was in the Friend portion of the Liahona, October 2003. It is a song the Primary Children are learning this year, and I would like to teach them the chorus in Tagalog. Please help me, by looking through your old subscriptions, and/or finding some where you might have this in Tagalog. Please... you have no idea how much this will mean to my primary. Please feel free to email me any ideas or suggestion or help you may be able to lend. Ingat! Lagi,

I just came back from the Philippines with two friends. We went trekking to the rice terraces in Banaue and caving through the majestic town of Sagada. We then went through mission. There are new big churches everywhere! We dove with the whales in Subic Bay. What a rush to have a whale pull you through the water.
We then flew from Manila to Coron, Palawan in a 19 passenger plane. We went scuba diving in Coron to WWII ship wrecks. It was amazing!! The whole 9 days was relatively cheap counting the cost of the dives, the rental car, our flight to palawan, hotels and food. I think it was around $700 per person. Our airfare round trip to the Philippines was $900 per person.
Next Year I am taking Ashley back to do the same thing!!

The NSA is opening a translation center in Utah and is looking for Tagalog speakers. They will pay a starting bonus of $7,500. I am including the link to the article in the Deseret News on Friday February 24 2006.

Actually, the vaccinations depend on where you plan to go. If you're staying in the metro areas you won't need as many vaccinations. However, once you get out of the city the CDC recommends you get a whole battery of vaccinations: http://www.cdc.gov/travel/seasia.htm#vaccines
As for places to go, I highly recommend you go to Coron (Busuanga, Palawan). Last August, I took a group of guys and we did a five day sea kayak trip around the island. Coron looks a lot like the Na Pali coastline of Kauai. Some of the cliff faces in Coron rise more than 4,000 from the water (and the water is crystal clear). Also, there are tons of WWII wrecks to dive (if you scuba). You can hire a kayak guide for about $60/pp per day and he'll provide a most equipment, food and kayaks.
Also, if you have a few extra days, you can catch a flight from Manila to other SE Asian countries for a steal. I'd suggest Angkor Wat in Cambodia. It contains the world's largest temple complex and is over 1,000 years old (you can see it in the first Tomb Rader movie). It's quite stunning and is an experience you'll not soon forget. It is becoming more developed, (I was there two years ago) and is loosing some of its mystic.
Overall have a great time and don't feel too bad when you realize your Tagalog isn't as good as it once was :)

I guess I should make my own announcement here! My wife gave birth via emergency C-section last Friday our baby boy Henry Eli Paul Junior.
I have pictures up here:
http://paulfam.com/
PS. Due to needing the house a little warmer for the baby I had to shave. :-) I am also in the web hosting business so if anyone would like to host a web site and / or email let me know because I can get pretty cheap rates.

I went back to the Phils in 2000. From what I understand the vaccinations apply to the type of Visa you will have. There is a standard vacation visa that is something like 2 or 3 weeks that they will stamp your passport with when you arrive. This type of visa does not require vaccinations.

Yes, you'll need another battery of vaccinations. You'll want to get started early as some of the vaccinations have three sequences and require a few months to finish. If you're heading to Palawan or Busanga, you'll want anti-malarial pills as well (pretty expensive... $90 for 11 days worth). Have fun!

Hi--
I am wondering if it is necessary to get vaccinated again before traveling back to the Phils., or does a vaccination last a lifetime??
Does anybody know?
Thanks,
Justin

Hi again everyone,
I have two questions. First, is the road from Morong to Subic passable in April (dry season) in a little 4dr car?
Second, Who served in Candelaria? I would like to hook up with some member that we could pay to come out to Potipot Island with us and cook for us. I really want my friends to experience the Philippines. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Justin

Hi everyone,
I am finally doing it. We booked our tickets yesterday for Mar. 30 to April 9. My wife has generously agreed to give me the "hall pass" to go back to the Philippines with a couple of friends. Actually the agreement is that she gets Lasik and I get to go back.
We are going to just take backpacks and go for it. We plan on going to the Rice Terraces and Sagada. Of course we will spend some time in the mission.
Please email if you have in suggestions of "must see" places. For those of you that served in Sta. Cruz, isn't there some caves to see or something I heard?? When I was serving, Pangasinan was not part of the mission. Does anyone know how Hundred Islands is?? We plan on going to Potipot Island off the coast of Candelaria. We plan on getting some good hiking in up in Sagada and Banaue(Rice terraces).
We would like to do some snorkeling and/or scuba diving if anyone has any suggestions.
I look forward to hearing back from any of you.
Justin

Well condolences to all of you who firmly believe that there should be no more Hiatts in the world (which is fruitless, since we make up a good 20% of it). But it's true there is an addition to our little home, and family home evenings now seem more family-ish. Her name is Asia Malaya Hiatt and she's three weeks old. She sleeps a lot, but not at night and lives in a state of perpetual dirty diaperity. (I think she'd be cleaner if I dressed her in only a T-shirt.) So if you've been waiting on the go-ahead of pink or blue, try orange, because it's halloween here in the states.
love,
Tom Hiatt
ps If you'd like to see some pictures, log on to asia's email at gmail.com. Her username is asiahiatt and her password is asia1007. She gave me permission to give that out.

Free - but we are taking $2 donations at the door - all proceeds will go directly to cancer research

Hello all,
I am teaching in Relief Society this Sunday, and am wanting to have some pictures of the Philippines to put in a power point presentation. I went through my pictures and seem to have only pictures of people. (Not that this is a bad thing, however, I need more than just baptism pictures.)
Please email me any pictures you have of the Philippines, children playing, poverty, homes, scenery, and or landscapes.
Pictures can be emailed to johnandannaluise@shaw.ca
Salamat!
