More Elder Jipa News 17 Feb 2004
Here's the latest I've received from Jared Maddox from his uncle:

"Dear Jared,

We had a terrible thing happen here in Vienna two weeks ago. Brother Jipa from the Vienna 1st ward was killed by the police. We do not know everything, but we know for sure, that Br. Jipa left his home in the evening telling his wife that he wants to protect his family, but never wants to do anything wrong. "I am a bearer of the priesthood and I will act according to the will of Jesus Christ" were his last words before he left. His wife didn't know what he meant but she observed that he was very hectic.

Then he drove his truck downtown to deliver some milk products to some hotels in southern Vienna. The story about what happened doesn't jive with Brother Jipa's character. Everyone who knew Brother Jipa as a very calm person, never aggressive. His boss said in an interview with TV that he was the last one of his employees to ever lose his cool.

Brother Jipa was a High Priest, married with a little boy. He was born in Romania. Filled a successful mission there, went back and found a wife, and then returned to Austria. He had a strong testimony. We heard him bear it more than once. The Sunday of his death we were in Vienna 1st Ward and shook his hand and listened to him bring out several scriptures about the ward conference them of "I the Lord will forgive whom I will, but of you is required to forgive all men."

A lot of people attended his funeral in the cold snowy weather. One of his fellow workers spoke, President Wadosch spoke, and a member of his ward who knew him well. His wife and son are being helped by the contributions of the members. She was solid all through the funeral. Brother Jipa's parents, who are not members of the church mourned openly as the body was placed in the grave. Missionaries sang softly as every one else passed by the grave and threw a flower in. Except for the cold and snow, it was a very nice funeral.

your uncle, laine "
