ANNOUNCEMENT

Dorot Foundation Summer Research Assistantships for Graduate Students

The Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies supports scholarship in the
field of
Holocaust studies; promotes the growth of Holocaust studies at
American
universities and the development of strong relationships between
American and
foreign scholars of the Holocaust; and seeks to ensure the
ongoing training of
future generations of scholars specializing in the
Holocaust.

The Center is accepting applications for graduate student summer research
assistantships. Full-time research assistants will work with the Center's
scholars and program directors on one of five special projects:

Providing research support for the work of the International Commission on
the
Holocaust in Romania, recently appointed by the President of Romania
and chaired
by Elie Wiesel (Romanian language skills required);

Translating and editing German entries into English for the Center's
Encyclopedia of Nazi Camps, Ghettos and other internment sites (fluent
German
and English required);

Researching and Translating Hebrew and Yiddish sources for the Center's
Encyclopedia of Nazi Camps, Ghettos and other internment sites (fluent
Hebrew
and Yiddish required);

Providing research support and translating documents for a publication on
xde
?lisinau (Kishinev) ghetto (Romanian language skills required);

Working on the Center's new Jewish Source Study Initiative, which is
designed to
stimulate research and teaching about the efforts of Jewish
individuals,
organizations and communities to sustain Jewish life and
reaffirm Jewish values
during and after Holocaust (Jewish Studies training
required).

Each assistantship will last for two to three months (June, July, August
2004).
The stipend will be $2,000/month. The Center will provide one
roundtrip airline
ticket to and from Washington, D.C. for travel within
the United States.
Applicants must be currently enrolled in or admitted to
a graduate degree
program at a U.S. university. The Center will not
provide visa assistance for
non-U.S. citizens.

Application Procedure:

Please send your resume, a personal statement of no more than two pages in
length, and one letter of recommendation from a faculty member or dean at
your
institution that speaks to your qualifications for one of the
pukje`xs
enumerated above. Your statement must specify which assistantship
you are
applying for and explain the significance of the position to your
professional
and/or academic goals. Application materials must be received
by March 19, 2004.
All applicants will be notified of the selection
results by April 5, 2004.
