Fredrick Hans Barth, age 90, died Feb. 10, 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was born Dec. 4, 1911 in Seiden, Hungary to Martin Barth and Susanna Wegendt.
At age 14 he left his village for an apprenticeship and a chance for a better
life. He served in the Romanian Army, and later during World War II for the
German military. After his baptism into the LDS Church in 1952, he met and
married Maria Martha Mueller in 1956 in Stuttgart, Germany. They emigrated to
Salt Lake City and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
He wrote two books about his life and the culture of his homeland, "A
Transylvanian Legacy" and "Guided and Guarded", following a 20-year career as a
genealogical researcher for the LDS Church. He was a faithful and spiritual man,
serving an LDS mission to Romania at the age of 82 with his wife. He spent many
years volunteering and helping the poor, having experienced hunger and
homelessness throughout his early life. His remarkable legacy demonstrates that
even the humblest of beginnings can lead to the richest of lives.

(Barbara Jo), Susanne (Robert Gardiner), Thomas (Stacie), and his son Dieter
(Helga) from his first wife Erika Popp, and 14 grand- children.
