The Ortons sent the following message which was read at the reunion:
Dear Missionaries, Members & Friends,
We write, hoping this message will be received and passed on to all of you, our beloved friends who have had such a positive impact on our lives. We long to be with you, but the call to serve has us elsewhere at this moment. We do not begrudge the fact that we are here and you are there; however, there is a substantial tugging at our heartstrings as we see you in our minds eye and want somehow to embrace you and tell you, in person, how much we love and appreciate you.
During the past year we flew over the cities where we labored together and thought of the people whom we met. We observed the Danube below making its way towards the Black Sea; we saw the snowcapped Carpathian peaks in the distance to the left and the cities of Cisinau, Bacau and Iasi to the right; and finally, we thought of you, your faith, your enthusiasm and your labor of love. We offered a silent prayer of thanksgiving to the Lord for having placed all of us in close proximity to each other and having permitted and enabled us to play a significant role in the establishment of His Church in that land and among those people whom we love and admire so much.
Please know of our admiration and respect for you. You are family. Families whose members are close to each other get together often. We hope this family will continue to gather and to be close. We have so much in common. The love of God, of each other and fellowman, and our community of interests, bind us as one. May that bond never break!
Love and best wishes,
Robert F. & Joy D. Orton
