Am pierdut trenul 24 May 2006
On the 28th of October 2005, The RomEst zone had just finished a great zone conference in Brashov and the Zone Leaders were preparing the group to travel back to their zone. " You have to remember that the Train home was leaving at 1:03 am Tuesday morning. So we called all the other missionaries in the other apartments and told them that they had to be at the train station at 12:45 am. We being the Zone leaders were very serious about this and wanted evey district leader to understand that we were not messing around. We then sat around for a while and then all fell asleep. I tried to set the alarm clock but found it too complicated and figured that Elder ***** had set the cell phone and that we were ok. The next thing I know I hear this distant sound of a phone ringing, so I reach over to look at an alarm clock. I saw 12:58 and just sat there for a minute because I didn't understand what was going on. Then after a few seconds I realized that we were really late and then the train was leaving in about 5 minutes. I yelled, " OH MY GOSH, GET UP,GET UP" and then the mad rush began. We were just smashing things into bags and running around in a desperate attempt to catch the train(there was a lot of yelling going on) . In the mad attempt I'm sure that we left many personal items behind, including a box of Books of Mormon, the cell phone recharger and my toothpaste. We had the Elder that lived there call two taxis and we ran down to the street. Only one taxi arrived, so we dumped all the stuff in the trunk and jammed 6 Elders into the small Dacia. We blew down the streets and came to a screeching halt at the train station. Then to the delight of the taxi drivers and paint huffers we jumped out of the car and ran at full speed into the gara (train station) only to see the other missionaries from the other districts give us the sad head shake that meant the train had left. We felt so stupid and Elder ***** and I knew that we were in charge and we had messed up so bad (sooooo bad). While Elder ***** was talking to the ticket counter lady the missionaries in our district stood in a little circle with our heads bowed, not wanting to go talk to the other missionaries that had arrive 30 min earlier. A lot of people were really mad, but after a few minutes I just started to laugh thinking about how silly we looked. We were all still in shorts and t-shirts with sandals on our feet, our hair was really messed up and most of us were wearing the suit coats that we had no where to put .(I actually was wearing all of the above, except instead of sandals, I had black socks and my Romanian zip up boot looking things) We found out that the next train left at 8:45 in the morning and decided to all go back to the apartments from where we came. The Elders in Brasov sure thought it was funny to see us back there again after about 10 min. Well we got there the next morning, and I had found out from the ticket counter lady 7 hours earlier that I could turn in the tickets that we had for tickets on the next train at 8:44. However, when we got there and I was about to exchange them they looked at the route and the train we wanted to catch was going a different route then the one we came on and thus they said that we couldn't take it. We already had paid a lot of money(there were 16 missionaries) on the tickets from the night before and we had English Sign-Ups that night. Elder Sharp and I then went over to the 2nd class counter, hoping that she wouldn't catch it and give us the tickets. And she was about to do it, but the 1st class lady saw what we were trying to do and came over and shut it down. However, with a litle bit of sweet talking and a whole lot of begging and explaining how they could use our tickets to make it work, through the goodness of her heart she gave us the tickets with a minimal fee. Once I was on the train a big sense of relief flooded my body. PS : Am Pierdut trenul = I lost the train.
