My brother Spencer Wayne West received his mission call tonight around 8:30pm MDT. He reports to the MTC on July 6th. I am really excited for him. I served my mission to Berlin, Germany from 1997-1999, and I visited Russia in the summer of 2001. I loved every minute of it. Anyway if you have anything you could recommend for my brother to take with him please email him at de_spencer@hotmail.com, thanks for everything in advance.

I wrote to Aelita Zaetz for a few years and now my letters have started coming back to me. Does anyone have current contact information for her?

After I saw Matt's posting on Elder Hadley I remembered an article I saw about him that appeared shortly after he passed away. Those missionaries who knew Doug will be interested in reading it if you haven't already. It's available online at: http://deseretnews.com/dn/print/1,1442,410015357,00.html
I was in the MTC with Doug and was proud to know him as a missionary and a person. He was full of life and taught me many lessons.
Bcevo khoroshevo,
James CKOTT

Hey all-
It's been several years since I returned home and probably like many of you, every once in a while I get the urge to look at maps of my cities just for nostalgia or reference. Problem is, I didn't bring home a single map (aside from the Moscow Metro)
So, I'd like to find maps of each city in the Samara Mission and scan them into hi-res jpegs to make available on my website. Memory Lane would be only a couple clicks away. I've scoured the Web and can only find a really small and illegible map of Saratov.
If anybody has extra maps they would like to send me - even temporarily, or if anybody is visiting any of these cities any time soon-- or even if you have them and would like to scan them yourself, I would be very grateful. Please let me know. Thanks.

Hey all you grechka lovers out there (and you know who you are)....
If you, like me, live in an area devoid of the breakfast/lunch/dinner of champions, I was just passed a link for a company that will ship you the fabulous stuff! All they do is buckwheat... looks good, just ordered some.

Hi everyone,
Since I recently saw messages posted from some of my era and before (Deakins and Dan Jones), I thought I would put in an update. I am currently living in Iowa with my wife, Liz, and my 2 little girls Molly (2) and Afton (11 months). I am doing an internal medicine residency and am currently interviewing for further training in nephrology (kidney disease). I would love to hear the latest from anyone that served under President Nelson or Wold.

Our dear friends,
We announce you that our lovely dad and husband Sergey Paltchikov have passed away last evening, 16 august 2004, fighting with cancer of stomach. He was with us, at our home, sleeping in coma. The last thing he did - he received sacrament and the priesthood blessing from his home teachers. We know that he was prepared and calm. Last words he said were "we have the recommendation for the salvation". He was 47 years old.
We know certainly that he loved you all. We thank you so much for all your help, support and prayers. We feel your love and it helps us to be strong.
With all our loves,
Paltchikovi Marina and Irina

Voice-to-Voice is a new project started by members of the church in Detroit Michigan and Pavlograd Ukraine (Dnipropetrovsk)
Voice to Voice aims to offer those in the U.S., one-on-one conversation with native Russian speakers while at the same time providing stable employment for everyday Russians.
Currently, we are seeking volunteers to help us with testing of our system and training of our "sobesedniki". This event will take place on August 14th from 15-00 to 20-00 Kiev time (6am to 11am Utah time -- 8am to 1pm Eastern Time)
As a volunteer you will be talking to several of our new "sobesedniki" in Russian via voice chat software in order to help them become familiar with the software and basic conversation methodologies. This event will be a lot of fun and a great way to practice your Russian and become acquainted first-hand with this effort to help Russian speakers in the poorest areas of the former USSR to become self-reliant.
