Comments:
(Nels was hurt badly in a horse accident late in 2005 and is confined to a wheelchair, so I am doing my best to fill in for him - if I missed a companion on the list, please forgive me. We have four grown daughters, 19 grandchildren, he had his own law practice in Ephrata, WA, until the accident. Nels served as a bishop and as counselor in our stake presidency. He has spent a lot of time in the scouting program and has served on our regional council for many years. He loved serving the people of our ward and stake and working with the youth. He loved going to the temple. The summer of 2005 we returned to Tahiti for our 40th anniversary and I am so thankful that he was able to go back before his injury. We spent a day on Maupiti which was very meaningful for him since he had not been back since he had worked with the members following the boat wreck in 1962. He loves his horses and mules - he took pack trips into the wilderness areas of Washington state which he enjoyed probably more than any other leisure time activities - although I don't know how they could have been very leisurely! Nels is a special man who loves the Lord and his family. He has been a great husband and terrific father and grandfather. Any who have known him have been blessed. I consider it a blessing to be able to care for him at this time of his life. Thank you to all who have been his friends.) Kathy Hansen
Update 9/23/2012: Nels is doing GREAT! We have just been called to work in the Columbia River Washington Temple and are sure we will enjoy this work. President Thomas Stone gave Nels a priesthood blessing before he left to be the Temple President in Tahiti in 2006 and the continued progress for Nels was nothing short of miraculous. We appreciate all the love and prayers that have been offered in his behalf.
