Thonburi Tom Tananchai 06 Nov 2008
I tried to send a message via the "In Memory" link but there was a security code problem, so I will speak my peace here. I received word that my former companion, Tananchai (not certain of last name - we did use nicknames back then - I want to say Barnarom but I really don't remember) - also known as "Thonburi Tom" who was very charismatic and energetic about the gospel, had passed away some years ago. I am not sure of any details - I did hear he was in an accident and was beaten during an assault, but I don't know if these incidents had anything to do with his passing. I would like to say some words to memorialize him after I have verified the details - so whoevr knows about this - please come forward for me and for him at this time. I know many of you are much more well informed than I am. He was my only native Thai companion. We served together creating GREAT memories in Mahasarakham. I was greatly saddened to know of his hardships. Please let me know and then I will express my memorialization for him. Thank you / Mahalo / Khaub Khun.

Josh Mcadams, formerly known as Elder Mcadams and my companion, is running in the olympics tomorrow.

He is a steeple chaser which is not an easy event(not that any of them are). Everyone needs to watch and support Josh in his run tomorrow.

Service Project in Thailand 20 Jul 2008
The international service group Youthlink is looking for a few volunteers who speak Thai to assist in their efforts to help with relief efforts around Khao Lak north of Phuket which is still recovering from the Tsunami of December 2004.

They described their efforts this summer as follows: In the town of Lamgen (Moo 6), we served at an orphanage, a primary school, and at local health centers. Through a Rotary International Matching Grant, we bought ovens for the orphanage and taught baking as a vocational skill (of course at the request of the orphanage). We also built a simple cinder block storeroom, and outfitted a first aid room at the primary school. We held a health fair attended by 400 residents of Lamgen, distributed (and explained) medical supplies to health centers. At the primary school, we taught English several days. We held two separate meetings with community leaders to determine future needs, which including an additional rain water catchment system, training for a local dentist, business lessons and microcredit initiatives.

The organization is looking for 8-10 mentors to assist 20-25 (high school and college age) youth in next summer's efforts. Planning begins this October. For further information visit the Youthlink web site or contact:

40th Anniversary - Missionary Work in Thailand 06 Apr 2008
On February 2, 2008, a meeting was held in Bangkok at the Asoke Ward. This was the 40th anniversary of the opening of the missionary work in Thailand. Alan Hess and I, two of the first six missionaries, spoke, and told of those first days. The stake president Wisit Khanakkham also spoke.

Later we traveled to Cambodia and met Robert Winegar, President of the Cambodia Mission, another of the original six.

40th Anniversary - Missionary Work in Thailand 06 Apr 2008
On the evening of February 2, 2008, Alan Hess and I two of the original first missionaries to Thailand attended a meeting at the Asoke Ward. Alan and I both spoke in Thai as did President Wisit Khankham the Stake President. Later we traveled to Cambodia and visited the mission president there. Others present were Wisan Wisanbanawit of the stake presidency, Grant Anderson of the stake presidency and other former missionaries such as Robert Griffith, David Rockwood, Darrell Gygi, Pete Wilden; Thai former missionaries Nujaree, Sudcay, Jakrit, and Sarawut, who is the bishop of the Asoke Ward. It was a thrilling experience to return 40 years to the date and commemorate that event.

President Robert Winegar who was another one of the first six was in Cambodia presiding over that mission and we went to visit him there.

President Lowe's Passing 16 Mar 2008
President Clyde T Lowe passed away on Friday, March 14, 2008. He lived a great life and was a great mission president to those that served with him. We know he is enjoying a reunion with his sweet wife who preceeded him in death some years ago.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, March 22nd at 11:00 am at the Spanish Fork West Stake Center (360 N. 650 W.) in Spanish Fork, Utah 84660.
A viewing will be held before the funeral from 9:30 am until 10:45 am. There is also a viewing on Friday, the 21st from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Walker Mortuary located at 187 S. Main St in Spanish Fork.
The family has asked that any returned missionaries who can attend the funeral join in singing "God Be With Us Till We Meet Again" in Thai for the closing song at the funeral. Romanize copies of the song will be available.
