Preparing to Serve 101:
Clothes For Sisters

Here is some clothing advice from sisters who served a mission in the Argentina Buenos Aires West Mission.
One thing that is a must and was acceptable when I served was a good pair of leather sandals. No girl in her right mind is going to wear knee-highs in the summer, it's not healthy.
Another is to make sure sisters have clothes for when it's really hot, and clothes for when it's really cold. I bought my clothes in Canada in early winter and I just about died when I got to Buenos Aires in January, the middle of summer. Lightweight skirts for summer, heavy ones for winter. Lycra tights with cotton in them are the best, bring lots as we wore more than one pair at once in the winter. We never used winter boots. Long garments are good too under black tights.
One last comment. Something that works really well is to buy lots of white or black lightweight, fitted t-shirts and don't bring lots of blouses. The t-shirts work under jumpers and they're great in the winter under sweaters and vests.
I know it's alot of info but it's stuff I wished I'd known. The wrong outfit can make you miserable.
Hair dryers and curling irons? Most sisters only dried their hair for zone conferences. Voltage converters worked but if you're going to bring one you have to make sure that you have appliances that will let you adjust the voltage on them, 125/250V, you have to look for that specifically. Otherwise your hair dryer might catch on fire and your curling iron will burn your hair off, even with the converter. Risky business.
Good shoes. Spend lots of money on shoes, get two good pairs of black shoes with really good support, no heels. If you polish up your everyday shoes they're great for church. Those plus sandals should last the mission if you take care of them. Good shoes for girls are really hard to get down there, even in the city.
Tights are hard to find down there so bring a good supply, and so is lip balm -- bring lots, it'll be your legacy with your Argentine companions, they covet the stuff. Sunblock and bug spray were hard to find too.
