I spent 2 1/2 years in Chile and after returning I married Diane Call. Her dad, being president of Sav-On Drugs, was kind enough to give me a job with the. After graduation from BYU in 1971 (Spanish), we opened a Shakey's Pizza Parlor in Orem, but within three years had lost our shirts. So, I went back to the retail drug business with Skagg's Drug Stores and worked with them for three years until I decided that I needed to get into something I really enjoyed. I attended UNLV in Las Vegas to get my teaching credentials to teach Spanish. For the past 20 years I have taught Spanish in Henderson, Nevada and also for the Community College of Southern Nevada. I got an MS degree in Teaching English As a Second Language, and in 2005 I completed my Doctorate in Education with an emphasis in Organizational Leadership. Last June I decided to retire and my wife and I moved to Saint George, Utah. I am still teaching classes for the Community College in Mesquite, Nevada and I will take some time off and then try to return to education and teaching. Along the way we had seven children and we also have 19 grandchildren. I still play the guitar and sing some and enjoy performing when the occasion arises.
I have had the opportunity to hold many jobs in the church. I have been bishop's counselor on two occasions, Executive Secretary, and High Priest Group Leader twice. I have taught every class in Sunday school and have been a teacher in the priesthood quorums. I have also served as Ward Mission leader. I have taught Gospel Doctrine on three different occasions spanning some 15 years and am the current Gospel Doctrine Teacher in our ward. I have also served on the High Council having duties with both English and Spanish speaking wards and branches as well as teaching prospective quorum presidencies and group leaderships leadership responsibilities and techniques. |
