Maurice L. Watts 11/20/17 ~ 11/17/06 Maurice Lynn Watts passed away November 17, 2006 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Murray, Utah, November 20, 1917 to William Eugene and Gertrude Park Watts, the ninth of eleven children. He graduated from Murray High School and the University of Utah where he was active in student government, activities and basketball. Served as President of the U of U Alumni Association from 1961-1963. He was inducted into active military service in March of 1941 during World War II. Served on active duty for five years, three of which were in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations where he participated in the amphibious landing at Lingayen Gulf on the Island of Luzon. He Married Donna Christensen on April 24, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. He was the Assistant Adjutant General and the Adjutant General of the Utah National Guard for twenty-seven years. He rendered service to the community as a Director of the Utah Society for Crippled Children and Adults, as a volunteer for Ballet West and the American Cancer Society. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in Bishoprics, High Council, and as a teacher in the Sunday School and Priesthood Group. He was a member of the MIA General Board and served as the President of the Australia Sydney Mission. He was a loving, caring, sharing, serving person with a gifted sense of humor. He was sensitive to others and endeavored to enrich lives with a positive, cheerful attitude. Dad is survived by three sons and a daughter: Robert K. (Debbra); Brad E. (Ellice); Mindy Folsom (Dave); and Todd E. (Jennette); 20 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Donna. Also, preceding him in death was his son Cory D. Watts while serving an LDS mission. Funeral services will be held in St. George, UT and Salt Lake City, UT. St. George services to be held Monday, November 20, 2006 at the Bloomington Hills First Ward 1130 E. Brigham Road. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call one hour before services and on Sunday, November 19, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the same location. Salt Lake City services to be held on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006 at the Brighton Sixth Ward 3001 E. Bengal Blvd. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friends may call one hour before services and on Friday, November 24, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cannon Mortuary 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. Special thanks to Dr. Hoffman, Dr. Nimer, Dr. Thomas Callahan, and Dr. Freiden and to all those who have provided loving and tender care. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Perpetual Education Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
