Comments:
I married Ashley in August of 2001 and we went to the Dominican Republic for our Honeymoon. We have three children; son Soren who was born in April of 2007, and daughters Svea who was born in July of 2009, and Liv who was born in January 2012. As you can tell from their names, they are Vikings.

I am amazed at where I have landed. I lived in Phoenix for 10 years, but did not want to raise my family there. The area was violent (19th Ave and Southern for those familiar with the area) and didn't offer the lifestyle I wanted for my kids. At the time I was in a house worth half as much I as I paid and working for a job that had not given raises in three years.

I filled out a survey on my interests and stated that I liked to ski, snowboard, fly fish, wind surf, and sail. My wife said "Erik, we have been married for 10 years and I have never seen you do any of these things."

So, I was stuck, how do you get out? The bishop told me to increase my fast offerings and the lord would provide a way. I increased my fast offerings by 150%, and less than a year later I was hired as the County Engineer of Douglas County Nevada.

I am now 12 miles from Lake Tahoe and I can see the ski runs of Heavenly California from my office window. We spend weekends swimming in different alpine lakes or fly fishing a different stream. The Sierra Nevada's offer a safe environment to grow and room to explore. When the wind hits 25 MPH you can surf Lake Tahoe - google it! I am grateful to the lord every day for this opportunity.

I have had every calling available. Currently I am the Physical Facilities Representative. Its been a nice change. No lessons or mutual activities to plan. I just coordinate the cleaning and upkeep of the building. Its great.

The mission was very difficult, but very rewarding. I am glad that I worked hard. Thankful for many of you – companions and other elders who made the burden lighter. Helping people change for the better really made me grateful for the gospel and my upbringing.
