I had some fun companions, enjoyed the camaraderie of the missionaries, and, most importantly, got to know the wonderful people of Ecuador. I didn't realize until I reviewed my journals that I also spent a great deal of time refunding some Ecuadorean cuisine. There were a few families that were most memorable, some of whom I can't remember their names. From La Chala, I remember Mamita that lived on Avenida Tercera by the church and next door to the Elders. She washed our clothes and was also our eating pension for a while (she used to make a tremendous cebiche de camaron) but, most importantly, she was a great friend. Machala will always have a special place in my heart. Stuart Bradshaw and I opened Puerto Bolivar and were able to baptize the Bolivar Salinas family which led to an avalanche of family and friends of theirs to follow suit. I remember baptizing the two youngest daughters(Amarilis y Dolores) in the ocean off the island of Jambeli. Other families that |
