| I was a missionary in Pascuales and the district leader in charge of the baptismal interviews of the Pedro Carbo Branch circa 1988. One day I had to interview a lady about 20 years old, she had been through too much abuse from her husband and her face was still swollen, she was living with a relative who was a member of the church, Elder Alvear and Elder ----- (I don´t remember the name offhand) taught this lady the discussions and she was ready to be baptized. I opened with a prayer, and started the interview and I had to open my ears to listen to her. She was able to understand everything and gave the right answers but her voice was not easy to hear. Later the Elders told me that when they met her for the first time she could hardly speak. When I finished the interview, I asked her to give the final prayer, she agreed, and I don´t remember a paryer more humble than this one. I still remember it after 19 years! The small room seemed filled with angels. She spoke in a way that made me feel vary small. This lady was going to start a new spiritual life and she was couldn´t have been more prepared.
This was one of the most spiritual memories of my mision in Pedro Carbo, the most unwanted place to be for most of us. |
