It's great this web site is here for us to read about our old stomping grounds. My favorite was Chone. My comp and I were the only gringos and I remember Richard's Soda Fountain across from our "high rise" church/home. We only had 15 members so we basically ran the whole show. I loved how the teenagers would walk up and down the muddy streets at night in a courting ritual without getting their shoes dirty. (Something we never quite mastered.) One day we went to Bahia de Caracas, the most beautiful place I have ever seen. I would love to live there.
I married an exchange student from Ecuador in the L.A. Temple and we have 3 children ages 17, 14, and 5. In '84, I returned to meet her family and saw that Quito had changed quite a bit. The skyline was like L.A. and bus fares were up from the one sucre I paid. I travelled by car from Quito to Guay to Esmeraldas to stay at her sister's coastal resort, then back to Quito. I own a vending machine business and we do wedding photography on weekends for money/fu |
