Hi y'all
Married with 4 kids, living back in NZ, I loved the FTM days.
Elder Earl was my comp. in Tampa and I remember we had lovely sisters like Smith and Lee in our district, teaching a guy called Russell Mormon, bowling on New Years eve, watching BYU football at the mission home and all you can eat pizza across the road from the mission office.
We opened Carrollwood area by the Mission home and Elder Carlton stopped by for a month. Sisters Channell and Swallow were in our District I think. We had an awesome WML and we loved to visit the Anderson's and we saw Super bowl at their place (it was an important part of my cultural indoctrination since I was from outside the US). We also baptised a girl from Columbia called Lenore and then I trained Elder Jorgenson from Idaho.
Not long after I went to Deland as junior ZL with Elder Payson(?) who was the best and we baptised there. We got to travel around and help missionaries in the zone and I remember Sister Pace from South Africa with her story and a lovely couple misionary in a little branch south of Daytona, but the Elder died after baptising a family of 8 (he had a stroke I think) and his wife went home after that.
Finally I got assigned with Elder Strachan to the new FFM in July 84 and visited Disney World and Epcot centre on P-day (thanks to tickets from Sister Lighty) before heading south.
I also remember great ZLs , the FTM newsletters and awesome APs like Danny "Shoie" Shoemaker and Steve Finch along with others like Sister Hyde who was the top baptising missionary in the FTM of our time.
What a great time, I'd love to revisit some of these memories if any of you are out there.
