I read this comment as a sub-head in the USA Today newspaper and it reminded me of what was said after another tragedy years ago: Elder Boyd K. Packer said he has heard people say, "What have I done wrong?" "Probably nothing," he answered. "If you attach tragedy, disaster and calamities to sin, how can you explain the suffering of Christ?" he asked. "Don't get the idea that suffering is a result of sin. You can be totally innocent and have this come on you, and in the course of it, it can be a blessing."--Church News, June 19, 1976 regarding the Teton Dam flood in Idaho. |
