Saudara-saudariku terkasih,

Selamat malam di Jakarta. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas celebration. Our Jakarta South Branch Christmas party was successful. The Charles Simanjuntak family presented a musical band, a Batak trio (non members); three youth played a very professional drama. The Bekasi branch had The Manuel Meyers on show, Bob Hasibuan and others. I did not attend the Jakarta Raya party, because I went to Semarang.

As you may remember, Semarang is a great city, famous for its flooding around simpang lima park, near our chapel. I went with two best Elders assigned in Semarang to visit several members. First, We went to meet Pak Samad who was just returned from the five days in the hospital. He is recovering right now, and went to Church this morning. He agreed that he needed a little break from his busy schedule. He has been so good in his career that people is giving him more responsibilities, and he also known by many people as Pendeta Gereja Yesus Kristus dari Orang-Orang Suci Zaman Akhir. I then went to see Keluarga Sastrowardoko. I did not meet Ibu Sastrowardoko, but Wartini, her husband Dadang and their little son were home. Wartini started a little beauty saloon. It cost Rp. 3,000,- for lady hair cut and Rp. 1,000.- for children (with this price, you could afford to cut your hair every week!!) Thank you to Brother Wayne Jones who made this business possible for Wartini. Her husband is the snake guru. He sells everything from snake, purse, belt, the meat(it's delicious), they kept two snakes in their home...their little son is playing with the snake (I think)...it seems like in the millenium era...well, the snake business is not good right now. So he trys to raise chicken and turkey. I was planning to visit Sister Lie (who owns the radio Gajahmada), but she moved a little further out of town. I learned that Brother Lie passed away last April, and Sister Lie is having some health problem. Sister Lie is famous of being a generous Relief Society President long ago. The missionaries love to stop by at her home...it made all missionaries "kenyang" or "penuh".

I visited several other members. The last stop was at Bro. Koesman's home (Dahono's grand father). He was baptised by Elder Sellers in 1977. He has not been around for many years. This "old" man is a little different, he has many big dreams in his life that are beyond my understanding. I sang a Christmas song to calm him down. It was a great evening for both of us. I tried my best to be a "papaya leaf" who will make a person feel good.

The service in Semarang starts at 08.00 AM. I got a call from home that morning that our son Ezra got ill. I prayed that he will be OK while I am away. The Sunday meeting was great. There were 75 people attending. The new district president was there, Bro/Sister Simanungkalit were there. P/S Tueller, Bro. Heru is back in Semarang. He works at the furniture manufacturer in Jepara. I had a durian party with him.

We are planning to go to Bandung tomorrow doing the same thing, building the kingdom of God in the beautiful land of Indonesia.

I need to tell P/S Tueller and E/S Richards that I had the most experienced pilots both coming and returning from Semarang. It was so smooth that I slept before the plane took off and waking up by the stewardess when people started to get off the plane...she was good the leave me the snack box, too.

Again, I know the gospel is true. It will make bad people good; good people better; better people best, and best people perfect.

Salam Kasih,

Indonesia Jakarta Mission
