19 May 1998 - Jakarta This morning, Thursday, May 21, 1998 at 09.08 AM Mr. Soeharto declared his resignation from his position as the president of Republic of Indonesia. Based on the constitution, the vice president became the president, who is Mr. B.J. Habibie. The new president will give his speech tonight for the work plan with his cabinet members to accomplish reform in all sectors as demanded by the people. The defence minister declared that the arm forces will protect all ex RI president and his family for the sake of the country. Hope this can ease the situation in the country, the general election probably will be implemented in no more than 6 months. So the new people representative will be elected. Regards, Hendra |
