Anziano R. David Nielsen 07 Apr 2006
R. David Nielsen (1967 ~ 2006), who served in the Italy Catania Mission from 1986 to 1988 under President Vincenzo Conforte, passed away on April 4, 2006, in Arlington, Virginia as a result of a brain aneurism.

David married Ann Michelle Van Tassell in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1993.

He graduated from Davis High School, Brigham Young University, University of Utah, and the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, earning undergraduate and graduate degrees in Middle Eastern Studies and Middle Eastern Political Science with minors in Hebrew and Arabic. He also attended the Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies.

David served in the U.S. Army from 1996 to 2001 as an Arabic Linguist/Signals Intelligence Analyst. He served with the Third Infantry Division, including one tour in Bosnia. He was reactivated from 2003-2004 to serve during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

From 2004 to 2006, he worked as a Senior Intelligence Analyst with BAE Systems for the Defense Intelligence Agency in human factors analysis.

David was a tender and devoted husband and father. He loved his family, the people of the Middle East, the waves of Monterey, and Warhammer.

David is survived by his wife Ann Michelle and his four children Alexander Isaiah (10 yrs.), Benjamin Ezekiel (7 yrs.), Sophia Nicole (2 yrs.), and Asher David (3 mos.) who currently reside in Arlington, Virginia. He is also survived by his parents Ronald and Marjorie Nielsen, and siblings Heidi Mayfield (Doug), Daniel (Cassia), Michael (Shanna), Jared, Jacob, Joseph (Thora), and Faith Nielsen all residing in Utah.

David touched and blessed the lives of many people in many places. He will be profoundly missed.
