After the mission, I married Tomoko Kasai, who served in the same branch, Himeji, towards the end of our missions. After the sealing at Tokyo Temple, which was just opened, I studied at BYU-Hawaii. As a CPA, I have worked at Tokyo, Hawaii, and Ohio for 25 years.
In 2005, my wife and I took two weeks vacation in Japan to celebrate our 25th anniversary visiting various cities using Japan Rail Pass. One Sunday, we visited Himeji ward for the first time in 26 years. We were thrilled to see some old members that we used to see when we were missionaries there. One junior high school student, Nomura Kyodai, who used to hang around at the missionary apartment but could not be baptized because his dad had not given him the permission, was there, now a father of three. He has since then not only being baptized but led his sister and mother to baptism. The sister is now a wife of the bishop at Himeji. We visited his house and met his father, who was very happy for his son and his family as they live right behind his house and keep the good relationship with him. We are probably two of the few lucky ones that we could visit the unit where we had worked as missionaries and had this joyous reunion while we were still alive in this world. There would be plenty of such reunions for everyone when we reach beyond the veil.
We have five daughters. The eldest served her mission at Las Vegas West. The second at Japan Hiroshima. I think they did their missions better than I did and I am grateful for it. Their missions have reminded me of those who served in the same mission with me and those parents and friends who had encouraged and helped them serve their missions.
Thank you for dedicating your precious years of your lives at the Kobe Mission and looking forward to seeing you again at reunions either side of the veil. |
