Presidents: Lamont W. (Tokyo North) Moon (1985 - 1988) | Richard H. (Tokyo North) Kiyabu (1988 - 1990) | | Served: 1986 - 1988 | Areas Served: Suwa, Maebashi, Toshima, Hitachi, Kamagaya | Companions: Kelly S Passey | Roi Stone | Scott Whiteley | | Your Occupation: editor, translator | | Spouse: Wensheng | Comments: I was majoring in Japanese at the University of Alberta when I first met the missionaries. Two weeks later, I was baptized and wanted to share my excitement by serving a mission. Since then, I’ve been drawn back to Japan repeatedly, living longer in Tokyo than in North America and met my Korean–Chinese wife there.
Our daugthers include Lilan, born in Tokyo on Oct. 19, ’99, Emily in Chiba on Aug. 29, ’01, and Rebecca (Becky) in Richmond, BC, Canada, on Sept. 25, ’04.
I worked for 10 years as a translator in Tokyo, and by 2002, we permanently returned to Canada. After a year in Alberta, I came to Vancouver as the manager of a local translation company.
Since then, I’ve begun taking BYU classes in Biblical Hebrew with plans to get a Master’s degree in Ancient Scripture at BYU or Judaic Studies at another university, hoping to gain a competitive edge to get into the Church Education System, fulfilling the dream that I’ve had since shortly after baptism to become a full-time Institute of Religion instructor. |
