I have a (BME) Indiana University (‘81); and a MS in Education (‘88). I’ve been teaching HS Japanese since ‘91. I teach private voice lessons in a home studio and in a studio in Lafayette, Indiana, and sang with the Indianapolis Opera from 1998 through 2004. I am currently the corporation department chair of world languages for two high schools and six middle schools in Lafayette, Indiana.
I married Susan in 1981 & have two sons between us as well as three step-children – Victoria, Brandon and Aaron. Christopher served in the Colorado Springs Mission & and used to share an apartment with youngest son Nicholas at Indiana University. He now apartments with a missionary he knew from Colorado Springs. I was able to turn the position of Frankfort Branch pianist over to someone else after being tagged "it" from 1988-2007 and am a counselor (5th time in 20 yrs) to the current branch president). I was president of the National Council of Japanese Language Teachers (2000 -2001) & on the board of directors from 1997 – 2001. I am the Tippecanoe County School Corporation Department Chair of World Languages (2 HS & 6 MS with 22 faculty) and am the only instructor of Japanese in the district. In October of 2008, I will direct Gilbert and Sullivan's "Mikado" as an educational / music opportunity to share information with the Greater Lafayette community about 400 years of Japanese history, culture and society and perceptions of the country as held by western society.
It was a joy to return to Tokyo in ‘98, 2000 & in ‘04 when I went to Kumagaya & saw Brother Takeuchi & his family. Brother Takeuchi was my first contact & first baptism. He now has a family of 4 boys & a wonderful wife. Both of them served missions. To see the old building, & to know 2 years of my life continues to affect others long after my mission is something I cherish. In 1998 I went to see the site of the old mission home & was moved to see the temple there. |
