Tomosue Abo, operator of a laundry in Honolulu, Hawaii, has been called by the First Presidency to preside over the Japan Mission. Pres. Abo presently is serving as first counselor in the Pearl Harbor Stake, and prior to that served as second counselor and on the high council. He was born Aug. 8, 1922 in Waimea, Kauai, Hawaii, to Kanematsu and Okuma Yokotake Abo. He was baptized as a convert July 26, 1942 in Honolulu. He married Helen Fusae Fujimoto in the Hawaii Temple, Jan. 10, 1957, and they have five children. He served in the U.S. Army from February 1946 to March 1947. Sister Abo also is a native of Hawaii, and was born at Aiea, May 17, 1926, a daughter of Kanekuma and Kikuno Hashimoto Fujimoto. She was baptized at Wahiawa, Jan. 28. 1956. She is a graduate of the University of Hawaii and has taught in the Department of Education schools. She also has served in the Relief Society, Primary, Sunday School, and as a counselor in the Primary presidency.
