Woods | | Your Occupation: Graduate Teaching Assistant and Instrucotr at the University of Oklahoma | | Spouse: Tamra Reall Fluharty | Comments: I returned to BYU after twenty months of my mission on the Navajo rez. I dropped my physics major, tried American Studies, eventually switched to History, and all the while pursued the minor in Native American Studies. I also took Navajo language classes and, with Brandon Bosworth, was one of the few bilagaana who participated in Tribe of Many Feathers.
I ran into Tamra Reall again and, after dating and engagement for a few months, we were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in August 1999. Our first child, Christian Reall Fluharty, was born in January 2001. I graduated in Spring 2001 and we moved to the University of Oklahoma so I could earn my masters and Ph.D. in 20th-century American Indian history. My thesis and dissertation are about the National Indian Youth Council (NIYC).
I spent summer 2002 at BYU doing research on Indians and the Book of Mormon for Richard Bushman. I am in my second year of teaching early morning seminary. I have also helped with teaching in Elders Quorum. |
