A Song for Rulon Porter

I will sing "Oh My Father" for Elder Rulon Porter,
not at his grave, but in the silence of my quarter.

From the center of my heart, from the memories of my mind.
I will think of his youth, and another day and time.

I watched him grow from boy to man in a land far away
I heard him offer up his life when he had a chance to stay.

I heard him lift up his voice when he was just a lad.
I watched him bear his soul to others in a way that made them glad.

His time has been well spent, his journey here now ending,
His life a gift to God, his faith was never bending.

So long to you dear Rulon, you leave a row well plowed.
Your crops will grow and flourish, your life has been endowed.

God's arms will open wide, as you face him front and center,
his voice a loving tone as he whispers "let him enter".

So long Rulon. Save us a seat next to you. Written by Elder Gene Till

"Obedience is the price, faith is the power, love is the motive, the Spirit is the key, and Christ is the reason." The motto of the Japan Fukuoka Mission can be applied not only to missionary work, but to everyday life. -BYU President Bateman
