IRON ROD
October 2007

To our dear missionaries,

We are constantly thanking Heavenly Father for the blessing of being able to associate with you in this great cause. We recognize the weighty responsibility each of us has in spreading the gospel to the people of the Oklahoma Tulsa Mission. It is a responsibility that we must take seriously. We have covenanted with out Heavenly Father to consecrate our time, talents and everything the Lord has given us to build up His kingdom on the earth.

Recently, we have been particularly struck by the important counsel in Preach My Gospel, which states: "As you understanding of the Atonement of Jesus Christ grows, your desire to share the gospel will increase. You will feel, as Lehi did, the 'great . . . importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth' (2 Nephi 2:8)." Perhaps it is time for all of us to examine our motives in being here. Are you just putting in your time? What is the ultimate goal you have in your mind and you heart for your mission? How much do you love our Savior and want to share with others your understanding of His infinite love and atoning sacrifice for us, which even made it possible for us to come to this earth, gain experience, and be able to return to our Father in Heaven's presence, clean and pure?

Truly, as we understand His atoning sacrifice for each of us, we will have the fervent desire to help others come to this same understanding so that they might partake of His amazing love and great mercy. We would be like Alma, who desired: "O that I were an angel, and could have the wish of mine heart, that I might go forth and speak with the trump of God, with a voice to shake the whole earth, and cry repentance unto every people! Yea, I would declare unto every soul, as with the voice of thunder, repentance and the plan of redemption, that they should repent and come unto our God, that there might not be more sorrow upon the face of the earth. (Alma 29:1-2)."

We were saddened and appalled as we read the recent statistics sent to us by Church headquarters. This year, the number of convert baptisms in the church in the United States and Canada has had a zero percent increase! Is this indicative of our feelings towards our Savior and His personal sacrifice for each of us?

Alma's heartfelt declaration continues in verse 9: "I know that which the Lord hath commanded me, and I glory in it. I do not glory of myself, but I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of God to bring some soul to repentance, and this is my joy."

The question we need to ask ourselves is this: "Can you feel it?" Can you feel the Savior's love for you? Can you feel your love for Him? Can you feel love towards your brothers and sisters in the Oklam=homa Tulsa Mission whom you were sent here to teach? Can you feel a desire to share the gospel with them? Can you feel love towards your mission leaders and church leaders, for your companion and for yourself? Can you feel your love for the gospel and your testimony of its truthfulness? It is time to be able to answer all those questions with a resounding, "YES!!!"

"You are called to represent Jesus Christ in helping people become clean from their sins (Preach My Gospel, p. 2)." May you go forward and do so.

With hope and love,
President and Sister Seal

Worth More than its Weight in Gold

Auto Safety Corner

We are entering a time of year when you can expect just about any kind of weather. That means drivers and co-drivers must stay on alert for altered road conditions. It may be fog, rain, hail, sleet, snow, or ice. The key driving factor is to slow down. If it takes you more distance to stop than you can see, you are going too fast. Allow plenty of time to reach you destination. Remember it's better to be a little late than a whole lot hurt or maybe dead.

Please don't outrun your guardian angel.

We love you and pray for your safety.

Dear Elders and Sisters,

The Oklahoma Tulsa Mission has grown leaps and bounds as we have: shredded our follies, paid the price, changed the culture, developed the tools, followed the spirit, fed the sheep, obeyed the Master, and planned for immersion as we orchestrate the miracle. Let us propose this question... Can you *feel* it?

We can *feel* the development in you and our prayer is that we will not quench the desire to excel, but rather raise the bar! As we do so, our desire and motivation will increase and we will *feel* President and Sister Seal's love for us. Christ *feels* it in you. Rmember that He is praying for you that "thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren" (Luke 22:32). Christ weeps with you even as He did with Mary or the Nephites after His resurrection... you can rest assured that His joy will be full as you "press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a prefent brightness of hope, and a love of God, and of all men" (2 Nephi 31:20). He knows you. Hew sustains you. He loves you. Can you feel it?

Your loving fans,
Elder Smith and Elder Wilcox

When love and skill work together . . . expect a miracle

The work of a missionary is everlasting in its consequences. Acceptance of the gospel at the hands of a true and dedicated teacher affects not only the recipient, but also generations who come after the recipient. -- Gordon B. Hinckley

The Lord is Always There
[picture of L. Tom Perry]
"When you live close to the gospel, the Lord is alwaysthere. I have proven it to be true that if I would do my homework, if I would study and be prepared, the Lord always ratified the direction I should take. The Lord has always been there to rely on."
