Post October Conference reunion letter 22 Nov 2002

Dear Taiwan Taipei missionaries and friends

NEXT REUNION WILL BE FRIDAY APRIL 4, 2003, SAME LOCATION AS BEFORE, NEXT TO THE MTC, PROVO, UTAH 7:00 P M

We should report that we had a wonderful time at our October Conference reunion. Each time we think there will be less that can attend, but we seem to have a large and varied crowd each time. This time we even had missionaries that have come to Taipei, and returned since we have returned who did not know us but wanted to see their former companions. We had a great time with them as well. It was great to see everyone, and doubly great to see those who came from long distance for the first time.

Sister Harris and I had two other very special experiences while we were in Utah, and one of them was not getting our rental car backed into by a 16 year old. First, We were able to meet with the old old missionaries from Taiwan, on the Thursday prior to our reunion. As we were entering the restaurant parking lot I did not see this gray haired slow moving gentleman getting out of his car. Sister Harris said, "Be careful you will run over one of your old companions." And it was true. There were about thirty of us that were able to get together, I honestly did not recognize some of them, and they didn't recognize me either. We were fortunate to have my first mission president, H. Grant Heaton, in attendance. Later in the week we were able to get together with President and Sister Robert Murdock former Kaohsiung President and President and Sister Denise Kim of the Taichung Mission.

Special notes:

  • We will be gone the entire month of December to South America.  We will report to you our travels.
  • I now have about half of the mission on E-mail so we will begin to use that form of communication as listed on the site below. Our Christmas mailing will be on this site.
  • The Taipei Mission now has a website thanks to Elder Todd Giles.  It is http://www.mission.net/taiwan/taipei/.  Please visit the site and sign up.  We will be using this website in the future for our messages. (Note --- you are on othe website right now)

We hope and pray for your best always, keep us informed of all the great blessings in your life. Remember the five things we talked about in final interview. The last three months we have had two very special Elders in our home ward, they are special for several reasons, one is that I have had the experience of going out with them on splits several times. They are special because they share their testimonies with everyone; and they have had great success, which is something unusual for our ward. In our ward PEC meeting the bishop was mentioning how they were very special, and he looked at me for agreement. I nodded and said, "Yes, they are just like Taipei missionaries!"

We love you,

President and Sister Harris

P. S. Please use this site to send messages of your travels to Taiwan, China, etc. also tell of your current missionary work. We love receiving announcements and life updates. As you share your experiences we are strengthened.

Enjoy!
