THE MESSENGER
November 1991
Venezuela Caracas East Mission

Translated from the Spanish by Erin Howarth

We wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
TO ALL OUR ELDERES AND SISTERS

Christmas has arrived and we are happy to be celebrating this wonderful time in which we remember the birth of our redeemer Jesus Christ. In addition, we want to express our love, respect and gratitude for each of you and for what you do at this time on your mission.

Also, we are happy because we already have 18 months in "the mission of power," working with the best elders and sisters and having edifying experiences every day.

Each one of you has been called by inspiration and has a special work to carry out in this time. We know that it is not easy, but we also know that great will be the blessings if we do our part well. The Lord loves us and is depending on us.

D&C 84: 88 "And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up."

We also love you, and that is why we always try to spiritually elevate you in each conference and interview. Continue forward with persistence and love, and we will overcome any obstacle.

Have a happy and baptism-filled Christmas, sharing with everyone this marvelous gift of the gospel.

With love,
President and Sister Hoffmann

WHEN YOU FEEL ALONE

The next time that you think that you are alone, that nobody worries about you or what you are doing, or something similar, think of the following:

THINK about the children of your investigators, that haven't been born yet. They hope that you are successful in finding and teaching their parents.

THINK about your future children and what kind of a father and a mother they hope they will have, with all the attributes and blessings obtained from a successful mission.

THINK about all the ancestors of your investigators who are hoping that they will listen to the gospel from you. They are supporting to you.

THINK about the temple in Salt Lake City where every Thursday morning, our prophet, his counselors and the twelve apostles dressed in the holy robes of the Melchizedek priesthood, kneel down in a prayer circle to pray for your success.

THINK about the first Thursday of every month when all the general authorities, the prophet, the twelve apostles and the quorum of seventy kneel down in a giant circle in the Salt Lake Temple, dresses in the robes of the Melchizedek Priesthood and pray for you and your investigators and their success.

THINK about your instructors at the MTC, in the work, time and love that they have dedicated to prepare you to have success, the prayers that they offer for you.

THINK about your ancestors and how they hope you represent them well.

THINK about your family here in the Earth, and all the love, support and prayers that they have offered for you.

THINK about your mother and how she hopes you do your best. But mainly,

THINK about the Savior and what He has to do in your success and what it says in D&C 84: 87-88: “Behold, I send you out to reprove the world of all their unrighteous deeds, and to teach them of a judgment which is to come. 88 And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up."

Now asks yourself: Am I alone? Am I doing this on my own, or do I have someone to help me? Is it remotely possible that you will not be successful?

Now read 3 Nephi 5:13, Jacob 1:10 and Alma 29:1 Now go to work!

Also remember this: Our limitations we put on ourselves! It is not the area. It is the missionary. If it were any other way, we would not be here! A mission is the only thing of which you will never be sorry for. As work, missionary work is very hard. As a calling, it is WONDERFUL!

MESSAGE FROM THE ASSISTANTS
A CHRISTMAS GREETING

We rejoice at Christmas time in which every Christian celebrates the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Prophesying what would happen several centuries later, Isaiah the prophet said: "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isa. 9: 6).

After having fulfilled this prophecy, during the ministry of Jesus, Peter said: "For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty." (2 Pet. 1: 16).

On the other hand, a century and a half later contemporary witnesses declared: "For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father-" (D&C 76: 23).

And we testify that it was Jesus Christ that declared: "Yea, verily I say unto you, if ye will come unto me ye shall have eternal life. Behold, mine arm of mercy is extended towards you, and whosoever will come, him will I receive; and blessed are those who come unto me." (3 Ne. 9: 14).

At this glorious time of year we feel in our heart the desire to work with more love and strength, while consecrating our lives to the resurrected Savior, as well as to the precepts that He taught. The field is white and ready for the harvest, and the Lord expects much from us. This is the moment for sharing with more love than ever the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are happy with your efforts, and we know that you can do more, for that reason we congratulate you, with much love.

Sincerely,
Elder Christensen and Elder Sanchez

FROM THE NEW MISSION PRESIDENT SECRETARY: ELDER FERNANDEZ

Elders and Sisters: I'm glad to address you on this occasion that I'm recently called to the office. I feel glad of having the opportunity of serving you "POWERFUL" missionaries. I would like to take advantage of this short space to remind you how important it is to send your passports to the office, at leaset TWO (2) WEEKS before your visa expires. It is really difficult for Brother Garcia to do your visa renewal when the old one expires. We'll also be able to send your passport back to you faster when you send it on time. I appreciate your help in this matter.

FROM THE EX-SECRETARY OF MATERIALS

Dear Elders and Sisters: I wanted to take advantage of this opportunity to salute you and to say good-bye to each of you. I hope that I have served with efficiency and rapidity in my calling. Thanks for your support and patience. I am sure that you will offer the same support to the new secretary of materials, Elder Petit, who will serve in my place. He will do a good job. I take leave of you, and I will remember you always.
Elder Anaya J.C.
