Estimado Hermano y Hermana Hirst

I am glad we have your address. We have been in Lima now for almost two months. The weather is great, not hot or cold. The people are simpatico [friendly] and I enjoy them a lot.

The temple has been closed for the two-week break in January and a lot of work has been going on. We have replaced all the curtains, re-tiled the baptistery and the bathrooms, put theater seats in the endowment rooms, and they have done a lot of work outside.

The temple district is all of Peru. We have to speak almost every Sunday at a stake conference. There are 80 stakes in Peru and 33 here in Lima. This weekend we fly up to Chiclayo for stake conference. That is where Elder Llontop was born. I hope to see some of his relatives when we get there. Next week we fly to Cuzco, and we will probably go visit the ruins de Machu Pichu again while we are there.

If it takes more than six hours to drive to a stake conference, we will fly. By the end of the three years we will know all of Peru. There is one stake, Cerro de Pasco, that is 14,000 feet in elevation. There is another stake that is located near Lago Titicaca. Then there are two stakes located at the headwaters of the Amazon River. They are coming to the temple on an excursion. It will take them six or seven days to get here. They go up the Amazon on boat for four days and then take a bus the rest of the way to Lima. This will be the only trip for some of them because they are very poor in that area.

Hermana Larsen is speaking good Spanish. She always gives good talks in the Stake Conferences. The people all love her very much.

The CCM [MTC-Peru] has a new president now. He is President Rogers. He was mission president of Baranquilla when we were in Venezuela so we know him.

Well let’s keep in touch.

Abrazos,

Presidente y Hermana Larsen
