January 4, 1999

I thought I would send this message to you that my daughter sent to me about the temple in Venezuela. You have probably heard the news but just in case, I will forward the information to you.

Well we have only one more year to go. We are looking forward to having another reunion during April Conference in the year 2000. What do you think? You all will probably be scattered all over the world by then.

I received a note from Elder Robison from Virginia and he put his e-mail address with the letter, but I have tried to send a message to him but it was undeliverable at the address he gave me. Do you have his address?

Elder Ortiz has e-mail and he wrote telling me about the birth of his daughter. Her name is Katalina. She was born last Sunday. Everything is fine with them.

Bueno sin otra cosa me despido con un fuerte abrazo.

President y Hermana Larsen.

Groundbreaking ceremonies were held Sunday, January 10, marking the beginning of construction of the Caracas Venezuela Temple. Elder Francisco Viñas, of the First Quorum of the Seventy and President of the South America North Area, presided at the service. Elders Robert J. Whetten and Walter F. González, counselors in the Presidency, accompanied him. Also present were the three area authority seventies from Venezuela, Elders Carlos Vargas, Francisco Giménez, and Daniel Johnson, along with the mission presidents from the Venezuela Caracas, Venezuela Maracaibo, Venezuela Barcelona, and Venezuela Valencia Missions, and every president from the 16 stakes in Venezuela. Approximately 300 people crowded into the Caurimare Ward chapel in Caracas to hear their leaders speak. Elder Viñas delivered the prayer dedicating the site as the place where the temple will be constructed. It will be located on property adjacent to the building, which houses the Caurimare and El Marquéz Wards, the Venezuela Caracas Mission office, and the regional offices of the PBO. The small-design temple will serve approximately 85,000 members living in Venezuela. The intent to build a temple in Venezuela was announced 30 September 1995 by President Gordon B. Hinckley.
