Fue en el año 1992 cuando me convertí en miembro de la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días, en la ciudad de Cumaná. Apenas alcancé el año de miembro, fui llamado por el Señor a prestar servicio en el campo misional. Mi primer destino fue la ciudad de Barinas, Estado Barinas. Esos primeros meses allí en Barinas fueron muy difíciles para mí, pero cuando salí de allí ya los había superado.
Pero ya próximo a cumplir los 12 años de membresía, todavía recuerdo lo que Nefi le dijo a su anciano padre: Y sucedió que yo, Nefi, dije a mi padre: Iré y haré lo que el Señor ha mandado, porque se que él nunca da mandamientos a los hijos de los hombres sin prepararles la vía para que cumplan lo que les ha mandado. [1 Nefi 3:7]
Inicialmente trabajé con el élder Cunningham. Con él conocí a una admirable familia que vivía en una de las barriadas de la ciudad de Barinas. Era la familia Flores, compuesta de 6 miembros. Posterior al traslado de primer compañero, vino el élder Macuares. Juntos logramos completar la enseñanza y bautizamos a la familia Flores. Este prodigioso acontecimiento tuvo su día en los registros de la Iglesia, el 16 de enero de 1994. Joaquín, el noble patriarca de la familia; Eddy, su amada esposa; y la mayor de sus hijitas, Jessica, se bautizaron esa tarde del día 16. Aún puedo sentir y recordar el extraordinario poder de aquellas sagradas palabras que pronuncié en la pila bautismal: Habiéndoseme dado autoridad de Jesucristo, yo te bautizo en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo. Amén. [3 Nefi 11:25]
Hace un tiempo que estoy alejado de todas las actividades de la Iglesia, pero aún así, no puedo evitar que vengan a mi mente los extraordinarios recuerdos de aquellos grandiosos esfuerzos que el élder Macuares y yo forjamos para llevar el evangelio restaurado a la familia Flores. Escribo ésta breve historia con la única finalidad de expresarles todo mi amor y sincero aprecio a todos los miembros de la familia Flores, esperando impaciente el milagro de volverlos a ver algún día. Si en la ciudad de Barinas, algún miembro sabe de ésta familia, agradecería mucho su interés en hacérmelo saber. Tal vez el registro de miembros (SIMIL) sirva para dar con última dirección que tuve de ellos.

It was in the year 1992 when I became member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the city of Cumaná. Hardly had I reached one year of membership, when I was called by the Lord to serve in the mission field. My first destination was the city of Barinas, Barinas State. Those first months in Barinas were very difficult for me, but by the time I left, I had overcome them.
When I completed 12 years of membership, I remembered what Nephi said to to its aged father: " And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commanded them." ". [1 Nephi 3:7 ]
Initially I worked with Elder Cunningham. With him I met an admirable family who lived in one of the quarters of the city of Barinas. They were the Flores family, comprised of 6 members. Subsequent to the transfer of my first companion, came Elder Macuares. Together we managed to complete teaching and baptized the Flores family. This prodigious event had its day in the registries of the Church, the 16 of January of 1994. Joaquin, the noble patriarch of the family; Eddy, his beloved wife; and the oldest daughter, Jessica, were baptized late in the day. I can still feel and remember the extraordinary experience to be able to say those sacred words that I pronounced in the baptismal prayer: "Having authority given me of Jesus Christ, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen." [3 Nephi 11:25]
For a time I have been remote of all the activities of the Church, but even so, I cannot avoid the extraordinary memories of those great efforts when it comes to my mind that Elder Macuares and I taught the restored gospel to the Flores family. I write this one brief history with the only purpose of expressing all my love and sincere esteem to all the members of the Flores family, hoping impatiently for the miracle to return to see them someday. If in the city of Barinas, some member knows of this one family, I would thank them very much for your interest in letting to me know. Perhaps the registry of members (SIMIL) serves to give their last address that I had of them.
