Almost Heaven

(Official Mission Song)

- - -To the tune of "Country Roads" by John Denver- - -

Almost Heaven, guided from above.
West Virginia Charleston, Mission that I love.
Time is short here, for our work to do.
Called here to this Mission, to teach and baptize too.

Country roads we have tread.
To the doors we've been led.
West Virginia Charleston Mission,
We were called to serve the Lord.

Six comes early, it's time to serve the Lord;
Learning the discussions will bring a just reward.
Prayer and study, wearing out our knees;
I finally did it, I certified them D's.

Country roads we have tread.
To the doors, we've been led.
West Virginia Charleston Mission,
We are here to serve the Lord.

Going tracting, casting out our nets;
Huntin' in the hollers to find the Lord's elect.
Oh they're humble, but from royal birth.
Sent the same as we were to learn the truth on Earth.

Country roads, we have tread.
To the doors, we've been led.
West Virginia Charleston Mission,
We are proud to serve the Lord.

Faith and testimony are the seeds we sow,
Nourished by the Spirit they soon begin to grow.
When they feel it and they know it's right;
The Spirit says be baptized by Elders dressed in white.

Country roads, we have tread,
Hungry Souls we have fed.
West Virginia Charleston Mission,
We are blessed to serve the Lord.

Hill Billy Mormon

(Unofficial Mission Song)

Now the entire Mormon population not too long ago
Was found in Utah, Arizona, California, Idaho.
Then they sent out Elders - their Mission to fulfill,
And now there are Saints in them thar hills:

Oh, I'm proud to be a Hill Billy Mormon!
Oh, I'm proud to be a West Virginia L-D-S!
Oh, I'm proud to be a Hill Billy Mormon
'Cause Hill Billy Mormons are the best!

Now our lives are so much better since they told us what to do!
They took our coffee, tea, and moonshine and even took our chew, ptth-choo!
We heard about the feud between the Hatfields and McCoys,
Well there ain't been no more shootin' since they all turned Mormon boys!

Oh, I'm proud to be a Hill Billy Mormon!
Oh, I'm proud to be a West Virginia L-D-S!
Oh, I'm proud to be a Hill Billy Mormon
'Cause Hill Billy Mormons are the best!

Now Brother Hatfield is a Bishop, you'd think he's heaven sent,
While Brother McCoy organizes Hometeaching as the Elder's President.
His wife is just a wonder in Relief Society,
While Sister Hatfield teaches the youngins down in Primary.

Oh, I'm proud to be a Hill Billy Mormon!
Oh, I'm proud to be a West Virginia L-D-S!
Oh, I'm proud to be a Hill Billy Mormon
'Cause Hill Billy Mormons are the best!

Now we always try to do just what the good Lord says.
We read them good books, say our prayers, and bake our whole wheat bread.
There's nothing like the joy we found since we got relig-
There's peace in the hollers while Zion's on the ridge!

Oh, I'm proud to be a Hill Billy Mormon!
Oh, I'm proud to be a West Virginia L-D-S!
Oh, I'm proud to be a Hill Billy Mormon
'Cause Hill Billy Mormons are the best!
