Presidents: Hilton A. (Japanese Mission) Robertson (1952 - 1955) | Paul C. (Northern Far East Mission) Andrus (1955 - 1962) | Served: 1955 - 1958 | Areas Served: Sapporo, Kyoto, Tokyo East (Koiwa Machi), Mission Home | Your Occupation: Professor | Spouse: Sandra | Comments: I served 10 months in Sapporo, one year in Kyoto, 8 months in the Tokyo East Branch in Koiwa Machi, and then in the mission home 6 months, a total of 14 months in Tokyo. They closed the east branch when I came to the mission home, but opened it later. It was a good three years on the mission and Japan has been in my blood ever since.
After graduation from BYU in music I did my childhood dream of being a music teacher in the public schools. But the draw of Japan things was too great so I finally went on to do graduate work in Asian studies and wound up at BYU teaching world music, Asian Humanities, and Japanese Cultural History. So it has been a good life combining my interests in music and things Japanese. |
