Carol Dean Plewe Scott
April 27, 1941 – July 11, 2026
Holladay, UT - Carol Dean Plewe Scott, age 85, of Holladay, Utah, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026. In the days leading up to her passing, she was surrounded by loving family members and friends who came to express their love and wish her farewell.
Carol was born on April 27, 1941, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Herbert and Sally Plewe. She was the second of four children and grew up in the family home on South Temple.
From an early age, Carol was actively involved in her father's successful construction company. She learned the importance of hard work and was never afraid to get dirty or do whatever was needed to finish a job. While other teenagers were driving the family sedan around town, Carol could often be seen driving dump trucks to and from construction sites.
She could handle a hammer, chop saw, drill, and paintbrush with the best of them. Those skills served Carol and her family throughout her life as she remodeled homes, built sheds, constructed a garage, and completed hundreds of other projects in her home and neighborhood. She was also an accomplished seamstress whose creativity and attention to detail were evident in everything she made.
Carol's talents, resourcefulness, and entrepreneurial spirit led her to start several businesses throughout her life. Among them were a custom closet company and Carol Scott & Associates, through which she provided interior design and home decorating services. Whether she was building, sewing, designing, or decorating, Carol had a remarkable ability to envision what something could become and then bring that vision to life.
Carol graduated from East High School in 1959, and attended the University of Utah. In 1961, she married the love of her life, Steven Jeffrey Scott. Together, they raised four wonderful children and established their family home in Holladay.
In 1977, at the young ages of 36 and 35, Steve and Carol were called to preside over and serve in the Canada Vancouver Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They moved their young family to British Columbia, where they served for three years.
That experience provided a foundation of gospel service and testimony that has blessed our family for generations. Those years also gave Carol countless opportunities to learn, grow, and influence the lives of people throughout British Columbia. Her reliance upon and trust in the Holy Ghost were strengthened during that time, and she never wavered in her commitment to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
Following their service in Canada, Carol continued to serve faithfully in dozens of Church responsibilities. She served as a Relief Society president and committee member, Young Women president and adviser, Primary president and teacher, Sunday School teacher, Cub Scout den leader, ministering sister, and building cleaning coordinator-a calling she truly loved.
In addition to fulfilling her own responsibilities, Carol faithfully supported and sustained Steve as he served as a bishop, stake president, and stake patriarch. Whatever the calling, Carol approached it with the same humility, energy, and wholehearted devotion. Through her example, she taught her children that no opportunity to serve was too small or unimportant.
Carol also had a deep love for her country and community. She was an informed citizen and devoted voter, and when she felt local leaders were not listening to residents, she decided to do something about it. In 2009, she ran for the Holladay City Council, walking door-to-door throughout her district-often with grandchildren in tow. She advanced through the primary to the general election but fell just 130 votes short of winning. Carol always remained proud that she had taken on something so difficult, stood up for her neighbors, and made her voice heard.
The only thing that rivaled Carol's love for the Savior was her love for her family. Every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild knew without question that they were loved unconditionally by Grandma Carol.
Several of her grandchildren had the opportunity to live with Carol and Steve during transitional times in their lives. Others worked beside her on one of the many projects she undertook. Whether she was teaching, serving, building, sewing, listening, or simply spending time with them, Carol made each member of her family feel important and loved.
Carol also expressed her love through the thousands of chocolate-chip cookies she made throughout her life-usually five dozen at a time-for family members, missionaries, neighbors, and friends. She never really stopped working, but when she did slow down, she could be found watching one of her favorite Esther Williams movies, listening to Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, or The Four Freshmen, or taking a quick catnap on the couch before finding more work to do.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Steve; their four children, Jeff (Carolyn), Stephanie (Steve), Christine (Rod), and Spencer (Catherine); 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Her influence and legacy will continue to be felt throughout the generations of the family she loved so deeply.
All of us were changed for the better because of her love, her service, and her unwavering testimony.
Carol will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Even as we mourn her passing, we rejoice in the knowledge that she is preparing the way for the rest of us to join her again someday, reunited as an eternal family in God's great Plan of Happiness-truly her greatest wish.
Funeral services will be held in her honor Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Valley View 9th Ward Gundersen Lane Chapel-1925 E. Gundersen Lane, Holladay, UT 84124.
