President W. Brent Hardy passes away 26 Mar 2012
President Hardy passed away at his home in Las Vegas on January 10, 2012. He was the dearest of friends to me and such a remarkable man. He arrived in Hong Kong as mission president after I had left Hong Kong and was serving in Thailand as one of the first missionaries there and was a spiritual giant.

His obituary follows:
BRENT HARDY Warren Brent Hardy, 78, of Las Vegas, passed away at home Jan. 10, 2012, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born Oct. 14, 1933 in LaVerkin, Utah to Isaac Warren and Harriet Bowers Hardy. Brent was a U.S. Army veteran and co-owner of Hardy's OK Tires in North Las Vegas for many years. He also served as a member of the North Las Vegas City Council from 1986 to 1993, where he was founding vice chairman of the Southern Nevada Water Authority and chairman of the NLV Airport Acquisition Task Force. He also led the city's effort to acquire the 7500 acres of land that led to the historic growth the city experienced during the 1990's. He also served for many years as a board member and chairman of the Ensign Federal Credit Union was recently a founding board member of the Bank of North Las Vegas. As a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served his church in many capacities, including as a full- time church missionary in China from 1956 to 1959. Upon returning from his mission, he married the love of his life, Elaine Taylor, for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple Dec. 16, 1960. Before graduating with a degree in economics from the University of Utah, he served for a time as bishop of his local ward. He and Elaine were then called in 1968 to preside over the church's Southern Far East Mission. His church service also included time as regional representative to the first presidency, stake patriarch, temple sealer, seminary teacher, and youth Sunday school teacher for over 25 years. He also returned to China in 1998 as president of the Hong Kong China Temple. His mother, father, and younger brother, Eldon Bowers Hardy, with whom he was in business for over 20 years, and his son-in-law, Curtis L. Robb, preceded him in death. He is survived by wife, of 51 years, Elaine Taylor Hardy; his children, Dianne Tobler (Howard), Warren (Carol), Rebecca Robb Wagner (Wade), Hance (Cyndi), Jared (Nichol); his sisters, DeLora Leavitt and Lana Freelove; 23 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Because of his life-long commitment to missionary work the family is requesting that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints missionary fund at www.ldsphilanthropies.org/missionary/ A public viewing will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 13. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, with a viewing beginning at 9 a.m., all at the LDS Stake Center, 4040 E. Wyoming. Burial will be in LaVerkin, Utah.
