Hurricane Rita Info 21 Sep 2005
In light of Hurricane Rita I called the mission office for information. As stated on the "New Missionary FAQ" page, there are plans to evacuate missionaries from vulnerable areas. Some missionaries have already been evacuated and are now at their evacuation locations. I am told that ALL missionaries in the Texas Houston South Mission will be relocated by the end of the day Thursday (9/22). They will all be in the care of stakes further inland, as will evacuated local church members.

Also, for your information, it now appears as though all counties in the mission have activated evacuation orders for their residents. Counties are divided into multiple evacuation zones which are to be cleared at different times, the most vulnerable areas being first. This should allow for a smoother evacuation than the bottlenecks seen with Hurricane Katrina. Residents are being sent to places like College Station, Huntsville, and Lufkin.

Information from the National Weather Service about Hurricane Rita can be found at the NWS website.

I will try to post more information as I get it.

Thanks to everyone who writes in with suggestions, questions and compliments about the website. I try to answer questions as speedily and thoroughly as possible, but I do not always have time to respond to compliments that I receive. Please know that they too are greatly appreciated.
