Privacy Statement for the MBSPN Alumni site

Please read this Privacy Policy so that you can understand our commitment to privacy. Questions regarding this statement should be directed to the webmaster by emailing the webmaster

Information this Site Gathers / Tracks

The information gathered by this site falls into two categories: (1) information voluntarily supplied by visitors to our website when they register, and (2) tracking information gathered as visitors navigate through our site. Third party providers featured on or linked to from our site may be gathering the same kinds of information.

To help make our site more responsive to the needs of our visitors, help them navigate the site, tailor the site's content to their needs and to measure traffic within our site, we automatically collect limited information about users' connections to the Internet, including their IP address, when they browse our site.

If users choose to have the site remember their username and password, the site invokes a cookie to assign each visitor a unique, random number, to track that user while browsing the site. This allows users to return to the website later from the same computer and not have to log back in using their username and password.

Unless users voluntarily identify themselves through registration, the site administrators will not know who the site visitors are, even if we assign a cookie to their computer. The only personal information a cookie contains is information supplied by the users. Our cookies do not read unrelated data from a user's computer.

To make use of certain features on our website, such as posting pictures, stories, messages, news, live chat, and other interactive forums, visitors need to register and to provide certain information as part of the registration process. We ask, for example, for a user's name, email address, street address, city or town, zip, and we request information on other topics.

Even if a user wants to remain completely anonymous, they are free to take advantage of the wealth of content available on our site without registration. The vast majority of our site does not require visitors to complete a registration form or give us contact information (such as a name and email address) to visit.

The more we know about our visitors the more enjoyable their contact will be with other return missionaries and those who register on our site. But if users don't supply the information we require, we may be unable to provide them with services we make available to other visitors to our site. For example, while we allow anyone to read postings in our Messages Board without registration, posting to it requires registration which enables visitors to also modify their own posts. Our live chat feature (when enabled) also requires registration.

We also use contact information from the registration form to send users information what is new on the alumni site. Users may opt-out of receiving email notifications; see the choice/opt-out section below.

As this privacy policy reaffirms, we strive to protect confidentiality for our visitors. Any information users enter on their profile (with the exception of their e-mail address) can be seen by other logged-in users. If users select in their profile, certain pieces of your personal information can be hidden from non-logged-in users, and other information even from logged-in users.

The MBSPN website will share users contact information with their mission president(s), or their missionary reunion committee if they request it, after verifying the appropriateness of the request.

The MBSPN website will not share any user information with any other third party, unless we deem it necessary or appropriate in order to comply with applicable laws, rules, or lawful orders of courts and governmental agencies. We will take appropriate measures to enforce compliance with the terms and conditions for use of our site, and to protect third parties from what we regard as threats of serious harm.

Postings to an MBSPN profile are public in nature. Thus the MBSPN website cannot prevent third-party scripts from trolling our site and collecting personal information. However, we have security and spam policies in place to minimize spammers and hackers ability to contact users by means of the information users post in their profiles. For more information see the Security and Anti-Spam sections below.
